I think it affects me more because I can understand some of the Heberew, but, just, total brain-skew, between the melody, lyrics, and essentially Russian pronunciation of the Hebrew words.

I log into Facebook once every couple of months, mainly when someone messages me, but I shall have to remember to do so and friend you on there!

What language are they singing in? Something Scandinavian, but which? I really like the sound of the language... and the scenery is not bad, either :P (by which I mean both the literal scenery and the gentlemen, I should add :P)

The question of what language they are singing in has been in hot contention ever since the video first got posted. All I can do is offer you the top-rated Youtube comment, which states that "the language spoken here is what happens when you speak only faroese, but are able to read danish, and then you try to pronounce the words using faroese". The song itself actually dates back from the 18th century and the events it describes took place in the 17th.

And yes, the scenery... to be honest, I'm more impressed with the landscapes than the gentlemen, although usually shirts off/long hair/full-voiced Scandinavian singing is a pretty compelling combo. I've had the privilege of knowing some damn amazing-looking gentlemen in my life, and there were Viking-like specimens among them to put these guys to shame. ;)

Very interesting! Having checked the YouTube comments now, I see what you mean by hot contention, too. I thought it sounded like Norwegian, but that's also the only one of the Scandinavian languages I've heard spoken at all extensively, so I suspect I would in general default to that regardless. It sounds very cool, at any rate.

I've recently become overcome with the desire to travel Scandinavia. Make a stop everywhere, then spend a few nicely immersive weeks in Finland, crossing the border in Karelia to fish in Pyaozero... *sigh* To be young again. Of course, since my husband gets like a week off a year, it's pretty much never going to happen, unless I go AWOL or something...

Well, I can personally highly recommend Norway! Most beautiful place I've ever seen. We only traveled around Bergen/the fjords country, and the next time we go back (which we are determined to do at some point, and for more than one week, though we probably shall have to pack our suitcases with peanut butter and beef jerky, especially with the exchange rate trend) I want to make it to past the Arctic Circle.

Also, the very little bit of Iceland I've seen first-hand is really cool, in a desolate sort of way, and the more extensive bits I've seen in pictures (my mother's former classmate went on an extended roadtrip into the wilderness there, and she showed me all the pictures on Odnoklassniki) was even cooloer and even more desolate.

So, I hope you find some way to implement your desire. (Really, one week a year? That sucks! :(
