One of my all-time favorite tv shows is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I love watching the dramatic changes made to homes and the joy expressed by loving families. However, the main reason why I look forward to this show every Sunday is because it provides me with sense of warmth, optimism, and motivation. The families on this show live in poor housing conditions, don't have enough money to support their loved ones, lost family members, have a plethora of medical bills to pay, ...the whole nine yards. These people deserve to live in brand new homes not only because they need new houses, but because they give back to the community. A single father with heart complications, five sons, and barely enough money to bring food to the table formed a program to lend a hand to other single fathers. A husband and wife established community art exhibits to show others paintings created by children with disabilities. A father with children all diagnosed with a rare disease quits his job to attend medical school, hoping to find a cure. These people...they are absolutely amazing. To go through so many hardships and still be able to give back to others...to keep on truckin' no matter what life throws at you...is incredible. These families remind me every week to let go of insignificant drama, never give up on faith, lend a hand to others, and be grateful for the life I live. I hope that one day, everyone will get a taste of these different aspects of life and change for the better too.
...I can't wait until next Sunday. =) Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will take place in Baltimore! Watch and get inspired.
