[Working Repost]
Bear with me, I've only had about 5 hours sleep since I woke up at 11am on Tuesday...
SO what have I been up to that's kept me awake so long?
Made my way home on Tuesday evening ready for our flight out to Athens at around 5am on Wednesday morning. We got to Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) in plenty of time, which turned out to be a godsend as there were over 55 flights leaving for Athens that day (to the extent that they had to make temporary check-in desks to cope).
Got through LPL easy enough, only big issue was liquids through security. Plane was delayed slightly (but only by a few minutes) as you'd really expect with the sheer volume of passengers they're dealing with. The flight was pretty uneventful, rather past it 757 belonging to Astraeus airlines. We got a small breakfast served at around 7am; sausage egg and (tiny square) chips with the obligatory bread roll, yoghurt and orange juice.
Upon landing in Greece we were met with what would be the start of a disgraceful day of organisationm starting before we even set foot on the coach to the city centre.
Once we got into Athens itself, we had some time to kill so we decided to have a wander around, chatting to a couple of the locals who were extremely friendly. There was also a large mingling of Milan and Liverpool fans all over the city and the worst fight that occured was a chanting match between a couple of small groups outside some of the bars. :p
Athens
So, what was it like wandering around Athens itself? Well it's not somewhere I'd like to live, but it is a very nice place to visit, below are a few pictures of the more famous landmarks that you can get to (aswell as a couple of extra pictures):
The long trip to the Olympic Stadium
Wow, what a trip, straight from the Acropolis down to Syntagma Square which was PACKED with a sea of Liverpool fans, from there we headed around the back of the square and down into the metro system which was just as packed as the square. The atmosphere down there was incredible, the trams/trains were literally bouncing with the clapping and bouncing on-board, there were even occasional chants thrown back and forth between the two groups of fans again on the way. Though before you could even leave the station, they had military police in full riot gear lined up as a wall across the exit, stopping youunless you had a ticket.

To be continued in Part II: The Olympic Stadium (Read: it's 3:30am and I want to go to bed so I'll finish posting later :p)
