Creating the Lexicon

Jul 26, 2010 20:11

WHO: Tansformers Animated Glyph and Ironman Tony Stark
WHAT: A meeting to begin creation of a working lexicon
WHERE: A business area of Zone 2
WHEN: Present
WARNINGS/NOTES: Open to others; those with an interest in Lexicography or Linguistics especially welcome. [I've found some conflicting sources as to whether Transformers Animated Glyph has actually been off world before, or if it is true current Cybertronian Autobot regime has rules against contact with organic life. (Or both being true, and she and Tap-out did travel to other worlds, it is then unclear what level of contact they had with organics and whether the former Magnus gave permission for this or not.) I am going to say that she's definitely studied alien cultures, including organic ones, but without having direct contact with organic beings.]

Glyph was excited to have an appointment to meet the human "meatbag" named Tony to create a lexicon. The life of a xeno-archaelogist, and one specializing in archaeometry, such as herself, was not the action-filled life of an adventurer that some assumed. Her cycles were filled with comparative research, text correspondence, and writing of reports. She negotiated for cleaner scans of historical documents or objects more than she got her sensors on actual, physical artifacts. Now, she was going to make direct contact with an organic, something forbidden to most from her world. She could not claim "First Contact", as she knew a certain space bridge maintenance crew had previously interacted with humans from Earth, but it was for her, still, a long-awaited opportunity!

As she made her way to one of the business districts in Zone 2, she marveled at the organic farms. There was nothing of the like on the Cybertron she had, until recently, known. She captured and tagged the optical feeds for later review.

She was as nervous as she was thrilled. She had been here in Axiom Nexus just long enough to begin to feel "homesick". She missed the proximity and presence of those few friends and colleagues with which she regularly interacted. She did not have Tap-out looking after here here, or Cliffjumper calling her for consultation, or even Volks harassing her.

She focused again on the opportunity before her: to meet intelligent beings of other cultures and learn of their languages, customs and crafts. She and Tony had seen and heard each other via their communicators, and so they would recognize each other. It was just a matter of spotting the particular organic in the crowd.
