Summary: What happens when a car powered by gasoline and solar energy relies on only one or the other? A refuel of some sort has to happen.
Notes: His recharge sequence isn't half as cute as Wall-E's.
The ache in his processors had finally faded. He had been programmed to deal in absolutes - not such theories as quantum mechanics and multiversal dynamics, but suddenly he'd found himself a victim of just those theories. He'd come to far from the SSC, far from earth, and found himself in what Mike would have termed paperwork hell.
Many of the questions he was asked made no sense, but he gave short and simple answers, revealing no more about the SSC than was required. It seemed they already knew the biggest secret: him.
But he had spent much time indoors, and as such he hadn't felt comfortable letting his engine idle. Even with his perfectly low consumption rate, on this world, he couldn't know how long his fuel would last. What he did see was that there was still sun here.
He'd kept himself running on only his solar cells until he was released into the outdoors. There, after an analysis of ground-bound traffic patterns, he chose a sunlit place to park and let himself soak in the solar energy as he integrated the translation and networking subroutines he'd been given. And in silence, he nursed a degree of displeasure at the bolt that had been affixed to his shell.
