Someone's homesick
WHO: Dexter Morgan, IDW Ratchet (OPEN)
WHAT: Dexter needs something a little closer to home, perhaps Ratchet can help.
WHERE: First the park, then Ratchet's Clinic.

WARNINGS/NOTES: Dexter brooding! Nothing too dark.
Dexter's leg can't seem to stop twitching, and it's not a side-effect of the coffee currently clutched in his hand. He's people-watching down in the park, but there's something nagging at him, and it's distinctly different than his Dark Passenger.
I can't focus - I thought this place would be a sweet retreat from Miami, away from the claustrophobic nature of the Miami Metro Police Department. I can kill when I need, and now that Dirge is back I don't have to worry about the disposal of the Heftys, so long as he keeps up his end of the bargain, and Magnum keeps his. But what's stopping them from outing me, from exposing me for who I really am? They know who I am, and yet they don't seem to care. I'm only a human, a means to an end. Their end, not my own. Something's missing. Out of place.
Dexter looks down into his coffee and sees his reflection. The same killer, the same mind... but a different place, and a wholly different situation. He inhales deeply, holds it for a few seconds, then exhales, closing his eyes.
I miss home.
He looks up at the sky, the endless cage that is Axiom Nexus.
I miss the sterile smell of the lab, the routine of DNA testing... I miss the spray of Luminol, the blood tests, investigating a blood trail both on my own and with Deb, Batista, La Guerta - ....maybe not Doakes. Hell, I even miss Masuka's creeper, pedo laugh, and that's saying something.
Dexter smiles down into his coffee. Oh yes, someone was very homesick.
Maybe all I need is a new routine. Something closer to home.
Finishing off his coffee, Dexter makes a decision, and heads off in the direction of the Autobot clinic. It was going to be a long walk... but Dexter didn't mind.
