Magnum was, as usual, heading for his office before the start of the evening's matches. Weeknights were usually quieter, but it picked up towards the weekends, and he always liked to check the lineup to see if anybody 'good' had signed on. Sunstreaker, for one, he liked watching, or liked rigging the match-draws to make it harder on the Autobot for Magnum's own enjoyment...

And there were the occasional human contestants who were capable of kicking a mech's aft before he'd even had time to try and step on them...

But tonight seemed to be pretty laid back, especially after Magnus's show a day or two ago.

Blackout was heading for Magnum's office, too. To help make his office safe from fetishes, with the special anti-fetish spray Starscream had given him. Maybe Starscream wasn't such a bad mech after all?

Yeah, right. Copter loved everyone, but...he'd make an exception for Starscream. Not cool to call a Copter dumb and stuff. Like...ALL the time.

He rounded the corner, feeling a little excited thrill. Magnum would sure appreciate it! But it totally had to be a surprise.

"Oh!" Oh...fr--rrrrench toast. Magnum! Blackout jumped, guiltily, the lights blinking off and on. "I mean like...Magnum, sir! Nice, erm, night...and stuff?"

"It might be."

Magnum had to admit he was a little surprised to see Blackout in this area of the Arena; for the most part, the Malgian was a good employee, arriving at work on time and breaking up fights before they started. He was more than a little dense, but intelligence was not in the job description and, honestly, he'd met worse.

Not much worse, but worse.

"Where are you heading?"

Blackout was aware that he was, well, busted and stuff. The timeclock was down the hall, the maintenance facility behind him.

Uhhh, think fast, copter! Gotta get inside Magnum's office to spray the anti-fetish spray. Blackout totally didn't want Magnum to get that scary virus. Watching Magnus go through it had been...weird enough. Copter couldn't handle it if his other idol got all gooshy and stuff, too.

"I, uh...wanted to ask the little birdie a question," he said, stalling his large aft off. "He said you could find him. So...like..I could just wait here for him...or somethin'."

...(and then duck into the office for The Surprise!)

"He's resting. But I could convey your message?"

He continued down the hall a little ways, typing in his code to his office and opening the door, gesturing for Blackout to enter.

This was...strange, but he wasn't particularly concerned, and there were a few moments before the matches would begin. If there was something the Malgian wished to discuss, he could have it done with quickly enough.

"That would be super-nice of you, Mr Magnum, sir."

And maybe Blackout could, you know, come up with a good question and stuff by the time Magnum found the birdie. Or better yet, it would like...take a bit and Blackout could duck out and go to his work station.

Blackout obediently clomped into the office. Wow. This was...super nice. Magnus would totally be jealous if he saw this place.

No getting distracted, copter. Gotta complete your mission. SO Starscream can be all jealous and stuff.

He gave a quick scan of the room, and peeped out the door. All by himself. Good.

He dug the spray bottle out of his storage. Magnum must sit in that really nice chair a lot. Good place to start de-infesticating!

Spritz. Spritz.... !

Magnum waited till Blackout was in before stepping back out in the hallway, closing the door behind him and leaning on it while he waited the appropriate amount of time for 'bird retrieval.'

He took the moments to pull up the fighting order for that nights contestants, looking to see if there were any bets that he, himself, wanted to lay--

--and then paused, to the sound of 'spritzing' in his room.

What....

...what was Blackout doing in there?

Confused, he turned, and re-opened the door.

"M-MAGNUM!!!!"

Blackout jumped, landing so hard he knocked out the entire electrical system in the room, pitching the entire posh office into inky blackness, and a silence filling the echoes of his surprised shout.

And the the crash-tinkle-tinkle of broken glass.

"Emergency power--ON." Magnum wasted no time in citing the activation code to his private back-up generator, considering this somewhat of an extreme situation.

The lights in the hallway flickered, momentarily, and then went out, and he heard the glass break. Ahead of him, there was only the red glowing of the rotor-craft's optics--frozen in a startled state--and something liquid that had splashed on him and was now trickling down his legs...

"Blackout." He growled, low.

"I suggest you explain yourself!"

The power rose with a soft hum onto what looked like a very, very displeased Magnum, glaring harshly at his 'guest.'

Blackout froze, the only sound for a moment the steady drip-drip of the liquid off his greaves.

He looked dejected, rotors drooping, optics wide with worry.

"It...uh...was supposed to be a surprise. From Magnus."

"From...Magnus...?"

There were the first, faint threads of fear creeping through his spinal struts, widening further as he recognized the broken glass vial pieces in Blackout's hands, and the tiny spray nozzle he'd had fixed to each of his virus samples...

"Get out. Get out now." He growled, whipping his head around, wondering how quickly he could get to the wash racks in the gladiator's lockers underground...

And not wasting any time.

"Leave, now, or you are fired. Do not return to work in the next decacycle, or you are fired. And follow me, quickly."

He input the code to lock the door behind them, and was already moving, 'dragging' Blackout along to the stairs down, not willing to wait for the elevator.

Leave? Follow him? Which one? Blackout was totally confused. All he got was that Magnum was really not happy with his present.

Obviously because Blackout broke it. Clumsy copter. Bad copter!

"I-I'm sorry, Mr. Magnum, sir! I didn't mean to break your present and stuff!" He stumbled after Magnum as the smaller (yet somehow scarier) mech dragged him down the corridor. "They told me it would protect you from the fetishes!! I saw Magnus when he had fetishes and you really don't wanna be like that and stuff!"

It's not lost on Blackout that his job is at stake. He loves his job. He loves ALL of his jobs. And he sees his Employee of the Week status...bursting into flame. "please don't fire me?"
