You would think so, but you are not the first it has happened to, Sam. There are many differing universes out there, with many different events, set at a multitude of times.

...Also, not to alarm you, but it is entirely possible that you have been here before, and simply had the memories of your stay removed. That is said to be the usual policy of the Transtechs, when they actually send someone home.
