Foo Fighters Concert Review

I'm pretty sure none of you knew I was going to see the Foo Fighters, but now you get to read all about the awesome show.

So let me start off saying that the Foo Fighters concert was the concert that I actually thought of as a real concert. And I don't think I could have chosen a better concert to go to for my first time. Now onto the many stories I have about the night.

Around 3 I got a call from Mike saying that he was going now, but he needed a ride, so I happily offered to take him. All we had to do was get him to Wal-Mart real quick to buy his ticket from Carolyn. We got there at about 4:05, got the ticket, and then had Carolyn and Rochelle follow us to Pensacola. Once we got there, we noticed that the line wasn't long at all. But it was only 5pm and the concert doors opened at 7pm. So we decided to go and get something to eat before we stood out in the freezing cold weather.

We walked over to the Whattaburger a block or two past the Civic Center. Got a bite to eat. As we were walking back Carolyn decided that she needed to hit the button for the crosswalk because she and Mike were having a competition. Well she went into a dead sprint for it. She hit some gravel right at the base of it and fell right onto her ass. It was hilarious. What made it even funnier is the fact that this old couple were sitting in their car when it happened and when we looked at them, they were cracking up in the car. It was great. =]

When we finally got back to the Civic Center, we walked up the walkway to the back balcony. Where we say Megan and Corry. So we stood in line with them for a bit and talked. Well after a while we noticed that we were waiting in line for the seats and not the floor, and our seats were clearly for the floor. So we decided to get out of line and walk down a few flights of stairs to ground. We were trying to walk around to the front to get to the floor level. But as we got down there, we noticed we were right flipping next to the tour buses. It was kick ass. But then we were told that we were in a restricted area and that we need to go back up and wait up there.

Finally we got into the area at 7 and bought our tour t's at the merch tables. Then we walked all the way to the other side of the Civic Center and went to the elevators that would take up to were we wanted to go. We got our tickets checked two more time and got purple wristbands to let security know we were in the right place. Once we finally got on the floor we run into like a ton of friends of ours and sat with them. We were right on the rail and pretty much in the middle of the t stage. Those seats turned out to be amazing.

Against Me! and Jimmy Eats World were both great! And really got the crowd going. Around the time JEW started playing though, people started pushing. So I had an older lady all over the back of me for the rest of the concert. I knew as soon as the Foo Fighters came out, things were going to get really crazy really fast. I was right. Almost immediately there was a crowd surfer on our side. I swear to God our side was the most energetic out of everyone. Because I noticed the crowd surfers were only on our side and most of them were right next to us. In fact Gracie got carried away and somehow made it back to us. The grand total of surfers for the night was 13 and two of them got dropped on their heads. Scared the crap out of me. I don't know how many of you know this, but I hate crowd surfers. They suck, big time. But I had to laugh because one of them did it during the acoustic part of the concert, and was dropped realllllllly hard on his head. Like not only did I hear it, but I felt the ground shake. Everyone went, "Ohhhhhhh!" It just happened to happen during the song My Hero. So all I could think after that was, "Well he's not my hero."

Okay, back to the concert. Dave Grohl keep walking back and forth on the t stage. Every time he stopped it was right in front of us, so we freaked out for him each time. He even posed for pictures for us. It was amazing, especially when he rocked out on the guitar. Being three feet away from one of my idols was one of the best experiences ever. Our group made sure to be pumped the entire time. I think I had my hands down for a total of like 10 minutes the whole time the guys played. We jumped constantly, and were all sorts of sweaty by the end of the show.

One special story that was told to the crowd by Dave was about one of the songs they were going to play next. Back in '96 they made a music video for it and it was based on a candy commercial they had seen. Well Dave said that their bassist mentioned how much it would suck if the crowd throw those candies at them while they were playing. Dave was like, "No one is stupid enough to throw those." the next thing he said was, "Sure as shit, the next show we played in Denver, CO we weren't even 2 bars into the song and a pack of Mentos was launched at us. Then the whole crowd was throwing them at us. And those things hurt! They're not like those holiday chicken things. Peeps. Mentos are like rocks. Those fuckers hurt. So after that tour we retired the song." Well then they tried to play it again about 3 years ago in Canada because they thought the crowd would have forgotten it by then. "Sure as shit, we're playing the song and a roll of Mentos smacks me in the face!!! So we're going to play that song tonight and if you guys throw Mentos at us.....I'm just going to keep playing. =]"

So as they're playing people are throwing Mentos from all over the place. At the end of the song someone threw up a really big pack. And I was like, "I don't think those were Mentos. They were wayyyyyy to bulky." Then Dave picks it up and looks at it and goes, "These are Altoids. Wrong candy dipshit!"

It was hilarious. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time. That was during the encore, so they played one last song, Best of You. It was amazing. I was so happy I got to experience all of that. And to top it all off, they played my favorite song, Everlong. Last night is probably going to be one of the best nights of my life.
