$20 bucks on the following twist...
Juliette is actually really now one of the good guys
And Jack has "switched teams"
I figure, whatever they do to you to make you an Other
(my money's on injections)
They haven't done to Juliette
Because she's working with the mothers
But they have done to Jack
Which is why he was playing football
And why he ran interference for Juliette to get back to the other camp
I'm also starting to think they're cribbing heavily off Stephen King's Tommyknockers
It's about a buried space ship under a small town
That gives the people living over it special powers
But at the expense of slowly becoming part alien
hmm, so what is the island? and what are The Others? based on the cribbing of Stephen King's book
Well, the island is just an island
But the ship crashed ages ago and is buried underground
Mind you, the writers of Lost know a spaceship is cliche, so they might couch it in different language
(ancient civilization that died off, etc.)
But it comes out the same...
So the ship crashed hundreds of years ago
And at some point later someone discovered the island and started the cult that became the Others
There have been hints that it could be WWII-related
(i.e. Nazi Supermen)
Or it could be the castaways from that old galleon, The Black Rock
Anyhoo, in the 70's, along comes a hippie science project trying to make the most of this electromagnetic phenomenon they find on a remote island
They build bases and fences that make your head explode and labs
But the Others/Hostiles overwhelm them
Take the tech
Keep the strongest and convert them
And kill everyone else
I think the faux Russian who supposedly died at the fence falls under the super-fast healing clause that we got last night
Like in Tommyknockers, the power can heal disease
Make you smarter, faster, stronger
And amplifies anything you're already good at
So, say, some Scottish dude is 6% psychic
Give him a few years on the island, and he's a bonna fide clairvoyant
Oh yeah, and let's not forget that everyone's apparently dead already
Because it seems like you can't die on the island
(unless you get a DUI in Honolulu)
Remember, everyone when the hatch blew up, they weren't killed either
Plus, if you can't die on the island, it's not a stretch to suggest you don't age either...
Which would explain both why The Others have no interest in leaving, and the possibility of their leader dating back to WWII or earlier
Remember, that husband and wife scientist team from Dharma arrived on the island 30 years ago, and he doesn't look a day older than he did in the training video
I've thought from the beginning that the ending might turn out to be like Dark City...
You know, like they're not even on Earth anymore
(but could still receive transmissions)
Old writing cliche I remembered last night...
In Agatha Christie mysteries, she often follows the same formula
Introduce a really obvious prime suspect early on
Rule them out mid-way
And then in the end it turns out they really did it
So a lot of the stuff they've "debunked" since season one
Might turn out to be true after all
And to go way back...
There was that comic book Walt was reading
A green lantern issue with a polar bear and an alien in it
And the alien didn't realize what it was doing was harmful, but it unintentionally caused all these problems, and was mistaken for an invader
wow
(I didn't get the reference myself; I read it in EW)
Well, I think it's next week or the week after that we're getting an episode about the husband & wife scientist team that started Dharma, and are now among The Others
Which should clear up a few things, for sure...
But, then again, you also know me, and what a complete fucking genius I am. Under the cut is part of an AIM session where I explained it all to a co-worker this morning. Read on if you dare.
That is all.
