Looking at myself in 25 years...

I want to ask you guys if you guys still see me in the fandom 25 years later when I am 48 years old? Well, I happen to saw nbowa posted on his LJ about if he will still be in the fandom and if he stays, if he will still be a fursuiter and all the fun stuff he does today. I wonder if in 25 years, will I stay in the fandom or if will there be something ( Read more... )

I hope in 25 years we've advanced enough to alter yourself so you can have fur and tails and such :P

I won't make predictions on where I'll be. We can't even be sure what the fandom would be like at that point. Though I doubt I'd ever lose my interest in anthros, the fandom is another story.

Yeah, that would be great! :D

I would say some furs will think like that in 25 years. They will still love anthros but the fandom is whole different story.

As I'm a little further along in years and been in this some time, really its up to you and if you feel you're getting something out of it.

For me, I need an outlet for the strange and bizarre. Not just for what little I have, but also to see it from others. Furry fits into that very well. :)

It will also depend on where things go. The fandom, being a smaller entity (less so now than it was before) goes through phases. Whatever ones will come will play a role most likely.

But really in the end does the answer matter? Enjoy what you can get out of it now, and hope it continues as such. Don't look to throw whatever problems you have on it without self-examination (I see a LOT of people fall for that one) and remember, everything requires some effort. Furry (like everything else) won't just plop fun down on your lap to roll around and purrr....

OK, it MIGHT do the last one. ;)

I think it will depend simply on how easy the material is to obtain. If laws that continue to erode peoples freedom of expression in lieu of protecting children from images of a graphic nature. I also believe Furry fandom could die a quick death as our major convention Anthrocon currently is housed in a public funds built facility and if there was some sorta scandal such as underage drinking, rape, or indecent exposure by some furs that it could bring the lynch mob and make the fandom lose its large facility to house its biggest convention and give the fandom a huge black eye.

Yeah, if the fandom lose the hotel that AC is at because of something like underage drinking, rape or worse then it can have severe ripple effects that could put all the other cons in risk of going under.

That is true Wild. :) I will stay in the fandom and I will die in the fandom. If it was not for the fandom, my life would be alot different and I would probably not be standing here right now.

I'm now 41 and I've been in for 11 years. I don't see myself as "quitting" the fandom although after a while I found myself getting frustrated with certain behaviours. You just have to pick and choose really and distance yourself from people and things that you don't like and focus on the things you do.

If I had to make a prediction, I would guess you'll still be participating in the fandom, although career, buying a house, settling down and concentrating on a RL relationship will take priority over anything that's going on in the fandom.

I have reached an equilibrium with the fandom that I'm pretty content with :)
