Is anyone out there still listening? Sorry; it's been busy.
1. Went to Costume-Con. Not bad overall, but I left with a bad taste in my mouth. Felt poorly treated both as a panelist and as someone who was supposed to have costumes in the exhibit room.
Panels: I was on 3. First one - the other members had been having an email discussion about what they were going to do. I was not part of that. The programming person claims I was listed as one of the panelists, so the moderator should have included me. She knew the other panelists, but not me - was my being left off a coincidence? Hmmm.
Second one - I was left flapping in the wind to handle the panel by myself. Someone (who it turns out was supposed to be a fellow panelist) sat in the front row for half an hour watching me flail, then bailed. Did she know she was supposed to be up front? Don't know. Whose responsibility was it to let her know? The programming director.
Third one - time got changed. Were the panelists informed of this? No. If we hadn't read the daily con newsletter we would not have known. Again - who's responsible for updating us? The programming director.
Exhibits: first rule of exhibiting costumes - make sure you have enough mannikins for the items you have requested. That is being respectful to the artist and his/her art. This was not done. I may never get another opportunity to show my work; to see it so poorly treated is, to be quite frank, insulting.
Volunteered to work the green room. Good thing; organization there was non-existent. Got through it without ripping anyone's head off; people might mistakenly believe I've mellowed.
2. Went to a mantra workshop focused on Ganesh. It went well. Afterwards I did the meditation at church (which I should write up as a separate post).
3. Did a photo shoot. I'm a little irritated at people who clamor for chances to show off in front of the camera - but when we set up a shoot well in advance, they suddenly can't show up.
4. Went to the Ren Fair. The weather was perfect; ate, drank, bought some incense. The next two days have been blistering; went briefly to the Greek festival and ran a few errands, but mostly have stayed inside.
