Cooking and Creativity

A bunch of the SLUTs are getting together tomorrow to watch movie musicals, do handwork, and basically farble. I asked Nora what she wanted me to bring, and she said cheesecake. Great; I like making desserts for groups: I can have a taste, and let the vast majority of it be eaten by other people.

So I asked what flavor cheesecake she wanted, or if she had a preference at all. Oh, yes, she did. She said she's tired of seeing chocolate cheesecakes or any of the weird permutations and variations on that theme. She wanted plain cheesecake-flavored cheesecake, thank you so much.

This is very frustrating to me. I like to experiment, to try different recipes and ideas. I have lots of cheesecake recipes I'd love to do - and I can't do any of them. Harumph. I guess I'll find a good, basic recipe and go from there. I think I have an old issue of Cook's Illustrated where they perfected the 3 basic types of cheesecake: dense, creamy, and fluffy. I purposely didn't buy enough cream cheese to do the dense version; that's too much. I'll do either a creamy or fluffy one, and make a black raspberry compote for those people (like me) who might like a bit of fruit with their sweet, creamy delight.

Then, while the cake is baking, it's back to the costuming salt mines. The idea of making iron-on transfers for the pheasants has fallen through, so it's back to the stencil. I have to get those damn birds on the fabric before I can construct the robe completely; once the garment is 3-dimensional, you can't easily get it flat again in order to paint. I have to get the robe constructed so that we can take a picture for the documentation. Plus I need to see tomorrow how things are coming on the fur for the otters - yet another project.
