dangerous minds.

so we discussed social issues in writing this week, and turned out more gems and soundbytes from their curious minds. an amusing dialectic emerged when regarding gender politics, how when a man sleeps around he's a lothario / cassanova but when a woman does she's a slut, but conversely when he takes another's without consent he's a sexual offender but if a woman attempts rape she's sexually-progressive. haha i was just folding my arms listening to all this across the room, wondering to myself when i should interject but decided, nah this is when real learning, less teaching takes place. TPTB should be so proud that i'm 'facilitating learning' .::fart::.

anyway, i was most inspired by their rather mature views on their own country's politics, how they seem to represent a more grounded slant on paternal governments and this may actually herald a new era of, at the risk of that cliche, future leaders of tomorrow hahaha omg there i said it. but it's promising to have seen them through their final years of education knowing that it'll make some significant impact in their voting culture and political leanings. let's just say these kids will not have the wool easily pulled over.

well, a quick review of class profiles after 10 weeks:

21, 33 : a gun-shy lot, taciturn and tentative in their views, needs hand-holding mostly but writes reasonably sound essays

32: great class chemistry, possibly because they all do the same subjects. vocal, bold, with a few still trailing in grasping concepts, but should perform strongly in the finals

34, 37: proficient in language, mostly eloquent in presentations, but subsequently lacking in content when writing, this class would thrive in a viva exam

36: my civics class, which may explain why my familiarity somehow translates to them either not feeling the need to initiate vocal contributions or inversely, a few would dominate discussions. average writing skills but very determined lot. i foresee them as 'value-add' students who will come into their own eventually

H1s: all 27 of them like a bunch of assorted nuts. mostly strong in language, save for a few still coping with expressions, but i hope the generally positive ethos of the class will inspire the more reserved ones. the vibe i get of this class is they just need that extra shove to get them from a B to an A.

report card for self: i need to write things more on the board. not everyone can translate sound to meaning so quickly

ok last poetry lesson for the term and i shall haul me axe to class for a lesson on rhythm woot!
