why i love this job pt 2.
term has once again begun. this one's going to be a real challenge in self-discipline, marking deadlines,admin stacks, meeting parents etc. but you know what? i'm smiling a lot these days for so many furtive reasons ;]
anyway, i made the kids analyse these paintings this week and so many insightful and articulate presentations resulted. i was literally beaming when i told them how promising they are (case in point, some of their responses for a lil online assignment blew me away). i realise i'm so much more positive this year in the way i dispense my comments and encouragement. perhaps my maternal inclinations have increased with the widening age gap. i feel like they're my own kids in a way and somedays i even imagine my own shrubs in the JC uniform haha jumping the gun but time is crazy like that.
it helps that they're a lot more vocal and brazen these days. a boy from my form class came up to me and looked at my double-female earring and asked,'is that what i think it means?' to which i deadpanned, 'i won't tell if you don't ask.' then another added, 'what's the big deal? bisexuality is so common these days.' haha i was stumped but amused by the generally blase attitudes of these kids, which is good cos it saves me the trouble of having to mince or hide behind pronouns.
we're trundling around little india next week to inspire them to write their own poetry on the local sights. i'll probably throw in some shopping while i'm there. been looking for some hindu-related aritifacts to adorn my living room.
some professional validation this week: apparently my h1 lit students topped the national average this year woot (yeah we beat the top jcs but who's counting)! that may translate to more immunity to my status at work haha (namely bending the dresscode). my boss says i've earned a keg!=]
and yes i do eat! my tub of roasted cashews as comfort food
