met up with my ex-hwa chong students. they're both in their early 30s. man where did the time go?

from uniforms to adulthood

Dr Lum and Dr Seah

besides the perks of having a network of professionals with potential favours you can solicit (one's a dentist and the other an oncologist), it's just nice to have these kids come back to look you up, with their own kids. jested that i'd probably be seeking them eventually for dentures and er, if i'm terminally ill. haha morbid, but it's just the sentiment.

i can't wait to see another lot into their 30s. this is part of the intrinsic rewards like no other.

speaking of rewards, it was a tiring but enjoyable school term, my bindfold lesson on sensory perception being the highlight. i got a victim (often volunteered by their peers) to each come up, get blindfolded and i'd put like a chox in their mouth, a furry object in their hand, some oregano near their nose or just blow a loud whistle behind them while they described memories or associations with each sensual stimuli. part of the rudiments of literary analysis. my colleagues liked that it was a novel way to lay the groundwork for j1s. next year i shall try another colleague's idea of using lego and clay to get the students to construct their ideas of the texts we're covering. only lit teachers have this sort of liberty to work with such random strategies! love.

funny moment though when last week i rehashed the old lesson on inference by bringing a bag of items i 'found' in the corridor and getting them to deconstruct the owner's personality and background, and i inadvertently leave my own spanking new messenger bag in class while rushing off to a back-to-back lesson. and a couple of dear kids from my form class knock on the door and said, 'mdm loh, we think you left your bag behind. we inferred it from the contents.' there was a lighter and pack of ciggies inside. ="> well least they're applying the lesson haha damn.

personal, work
