coz every kid loves a smartphone
got these as long overdue gifts for the shrubs. i say that because for the past 11-13 years they've been the best kids any mom could have. they never whinge, demand or feel entitled to anything. in fact growing up i would be the mad one asking them when we're out, do you want this toy? and their rejoinder would be, we have so many toys already mummy. haha i wasn't trying to atone for guilt or anything but i relate too much to being a child and how nice to be indulged once in awhile. besides, i've always maintained that there's no point working so hard and not spend it on the ones you love.
anyway the other day i updated myself by asking them what they like these days, coz i think they've out-grown the toys stage, and jill deadpanned, gadgets. and i said, like the ps2? haha boy am i way behind. and she said, like phones. she's using a hand-me-down LG from circa 2003 so i think it's about time for an upgrade. in any case i didn't go nuts and get the iphone 4. that would be mental.
can't wait to see the smiles on their faces. they've been stressed in school as it is. knowing them they'll just awkwardly say, 'thank you mummy.'

so they were surprised and each reacted differently. jill was over the moon and proceeded to insert her sim card excitedly and wrongly hahaha. jo was puzzled and asked, how much was it? she's so practical. later i asked her why she didn't use her new phone and she said she'd take it out after her exams (as a reward to herself im guessing) damn i love them so much.
