disturbing.riveting.beautiful
initially i didn't really know what to make of this film, it's dance meets faustian nightmare meets at some point, spiderman's evil alter-ego haha
but i guess for a medium which thrives on the melodramatic, it wasn't any wonder that this film indulges in it, from the gothic elements to its predictably tragic overtones.
i only wonder if Portman's anguished expressions could win her anything, other than the trauma she possibly put her body through for the role. what i liked about it is its stripped down honest portrayal of a seemingly glamorous profession. and at best, it represents what is universally damaging about human ambition at the expense of your soul.

and how about that immaculate yet appropriately poignant cheekbone structure!
