guess i'm still very old-school.

so we were walking the dog yesterday morning, and Joelle,10 suddenly intimates, "you know, mummy, we're in the worst classes in school. they said there's no more streaming but everyone knows that Hope* is the worst class."
*classes are named after virtues (Faith Hope Chairity Love) to avoid obvious order of merit

"Hmm so how do you know you're in the worst class?" i ask.
"We're the only ones doing EM3."
which i only just realised has something to do with doing mother tongue at elementary standards...i still don't get how the system works, TBH

So i just offered that it was OK what level they did these subjects, as long as they're comfortable with the pace.

Then Jill,8 quips, "So last time we were both in Charity but now we're in Hope but we don't have any." And I hoot and ask, "so if Charity is EM1, Faith is EM2 and Hope is EM3, what happened to Love?"

And Jo deadpans, "Oh there's no more Love."

haha indeed. what has happened to that IJ spirit of camaraderie, when going to school was actually fun? when we sang "we are one in the bond of love" and "pass it on" during assembly, just had to get by on 2A*s & 2As for PSLE, and days in school were really just about recess games and friendships?
sigh things have really changed since 30 years ago...

kids, family
