2014

Jan 03, 2015 23:43

2014 was the first year I completely ignored Livejournal all the way through (since 2010, I think). I stopped in 2013 because I literally had nothing positive to say about anything and reading back through my old posts, it's obvious why. Well, I'm still here and nothing much has changed. I'm not quite so angry these days so my 2014 year review is a rather toothless affair. Sorry.

January

I got a new (second-hand) bike. Much lighter and brake-responsive than the previous one. All the better to highlight the increased porky-ness of me in general these days.

February

I turned 32. Apart from a very pleasant visit to a very well regarded local North African restaurant, we did nothing at all to mark such a momentous occasion. February is heroically shit.

March

March is an utter blank. Lots of visits to the flat from the bloke who would do up our horrible bathroom. I think stress may have played a major part for most of this month.

April

The bathroom is stripped bare and done up again from scratch. It starts on 31st March and ends on 19th April. White tiles, 'Buck Rogers' toilet and weird blocky taps are all a go-go. Good stuff.

May

Warmth comes to East Sussex. I buy a beautiful light blue paisley shirt and wear it quite a bit. This, combined with my devastatingly lovely floppy fringe proves to make me just too damn sexy.

June

Rik Mayall dies. He is both mine and J's all time comedy hero and well, just an all time hero full stop. We are flung into a world of darkness. Weather holds its own though. One positive from this month...

July

We don't go to Latitude Festival for the first time since 2011. More money saved. The line-up is the worst ever as well - boring indie yanks Black Keys and Lily cunting Allen (replacing a poorly Two Door Cinema Club, the Norn Coldplay) are headliners. Rest of music line-up is completely alien to anyone who doesn't listen to Radio 1 or new 'buzz' acts. Organisers and bookers now well and truly chasing the young hipster buck. Sad and depressing. And to think, Kraftwerk headlined in 2013. Time to move on.

August

J's dad and his wife come down from their sleepy Suffolk village to visit us in bonkers Brighton. Despite my unbelievable anxiety about how my 'vibrant' home town would treat them, a lovely Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon with them follows and not a single moment of awkwardness occurs. Where did it all go right? Rest of month proves to be shitty weather wise but happily this changes.

September

Spent the month saving a lot for our holiday. We had a couple of park barbecues too. Absolutely gorgeous weather all the way through though, the best and warmest Sept in memory for me since 19-effing-96, when OMC's How Bizarre and Dodgy's Good Enough were my teenage 'jams'.

October

We only went on bloody holiday in Greece again didn't we. Back to the achingly beautiful island of Symi, our second (and my third) visit. Took another load of photos, saw a proper loud Greek wedding and sank more beer than I care to remember. Just perfect, going back fo 'sho next year.

November

We were going to spend more money on the flat round about here but it got to the point where Xmas was too close. Nothing much to report otherwise, apart from the usual boring working and saving...

December

Great Christmases with all relations spent all around. Personal savings decrease somewhat but that's what happens. You know you're getting old when you find yourself thinking on the 3rd of January - "thank fuck that's all over".

Happy 2015 to quite literally NO-ONE in particular (long live Livejournal!).
