"I have just returned form Boston. It is the only sane thing to do if you find yourself up there."
-Fred Allen in a letter to Groucho Marx, 1953
I love Boston and New England in general. The hot summers and cold winters and breathtaking fall and glorious spring all have ensnared me. I do not think everyone else sees this area as I do, though, especially those not from New England. Our history is steeped with uptight Puritanical modivation and morals that have carried through to today, yet we, especially in Massachusetts, are the most liberal in the country. Most see Bostonians and New Englanders as fridgid people with uncourteous driving habits. It's true. The cold makes us hard and hardy, but I don't see this as a bad thing for me. I can drive defensively and take any pitch thrown at me (even from a Yankee). I feel prepared to enter a sometimes ruthless world and able to kick back and watch the foliage change or buds rebloom. I'm ready to keep up with my hard work to stay competative and keep myself sane enough to keep going by knowing when to kick back. Thanks, New England, for the advantage over those show simply can't hack it.
