1. My Story by Elizabeth Smart
A little intense as expected; however, not as intense as it could have been. I can't say I believe the whole story, but whatever got her through that ordeal, worked for her. And I hope those bastards rot in jail.
2. NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
Creepy-cool story, NOS4A2 is "Nosferatu" on a license plate. This story is other-worldly and odd, but a good story nonetheless. Scary things take place around Christmas.
3. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Vampires at a boarding school. I didn't see what all the hype was about. I didn't care about any of the characters, the story didn't make me want to see the movie, and I won't be reading the rest of the series.
4. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Re-read this from my childhood. I mostly love the descriptions of Prince Edward Island. One day, I'd love to visit. Sweet, wholesome story.
5. The Execution of Noa P. Singleton by Elizabeth L. Silver
Noa is on death row for first-degree murder. The mother of the woman she killed has changed her mind about the death penalty and wants to help Noa with a stay of execution. However, all is not what it seems. I really liked this one!
6. Wool by Hugh Howey
Very cool story! It's set in the future, in the U.S., in an underground silo. Every once and a while, people are sent outside the silo to "clean" the lenses of the cameras; otherwise, people are not allowed to go outside of the silo. But when people go to "clean," they never come back. However, one person lived.
7. Labor Day by Joyce Maynard
Slow, but good. I wanted to see the movie because of Kate Winslet, but I really wasn't sure how it would play out on screen. I also wasn't sure that I liked the fact of someone getting involved with a fugitive.
8. Twittering From the Circus of the Dead by Joe Hill
I thought this would be good, since I enjoyed NOS4A2, but I was wrong. It was a short story & it was supposed to be scary, but just turned out silly. Cool title, though.
9. Shift by Hugh Howey
This is a continuation of Wool. This story, however, takes in other Silos in the U.S. & tells how the Silos came to be. Great futuristic story.
10. Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
First, the cover of this book glowed in the dark. It was cool, but it freaked me out when I realized it! Second, this is a fun story about a bookstore that never closes and the secrets contained within.
