Building Princess Peach - Part 1

Feb 14, 2010 17:50

Well, I started this post, got off topic, then firefox crashed so here I am again! Anyway, point being, I've started up on the Princess Peach costume again. This is because the accountant at work's daughter mentioned that there is a big anime con annually a BLOCK AWAY from my apartment. It's called Kawaii Kon, and it's april 14-16. I just bought my ticket as well as murasaki_hime  and my coworker Alyson's last weekend, so it is official! So now I have about 2 months to get this shit made. I procrastinated the past week or so, because i have video games and laziness. But I have a 3-day weekend now, so I got my butt in gear. The past 2 days have been productive, mostly today. I got up and brought my bike to Walmart, who it turns out will fix your bike for FREE so long as you pay for the parts. So i got a new inner tube for my front tire and that was that. YAY.
This post is super image heavy so see the making-of Peach Accessories below the cut.

Okay, welcome to below the cut! Incase anyone forgot what Peach looks like:

While I was at Walmart I also got the following: Gold spray paint, little stick-on jewels, 8" diagonal snippers and $0.50 little red tin bucket on sale for valentine's day. They looked like this:

I should also mention that I bought a couple other things last week. The 3 sets of earrings were bought from Sears with my gift card I got for christmas. The big silver hoops were one set, then the green/blue discs, and finally the blue half-orbs. Speaking of Sears though, I had to go there today once i found out the 8" clips were not helpful at all in cutting up red bucket. So i went back to Sears, to the hardware dept where I was asked if i needed help by 3 different guys while browsing for what I needed. only 2 of which were helpful in telling me what size clips I needed for the sheet metal bucket. One was a customer. But I will get to those clips later. First, I bought a great pair of pink flats for the costume:

They should be good for walking around and still match the outfit itself.
The earring were the next step, completed last night. I took the light blue flat circles from the blue/green earrings and using my beloved Gorilla Glue, glued it to the inside of the silver engraved hoops. (Did I mention all 3 sets of earrings cost me less than $20, which was all put on my gift card along with the snips, sandpaper and a lovely set of black heels? =D ) This will be used for the jewel at the center of Peach's chest. It isn't totally accurate but I like it, and it looks like this:

Okay, back to the bucket & spraypaint. You're probably like 'Okay MacGuyver, this is interesting, but wtf are you going to do with that bucket?' at this point. If you're working hard at this riddle (you shouldn't be, 'm going to explain it anyway) then you can probably guess. Either way, here are the steps:
One - Cut the bucket into points at the top:

Step 2: Model that shit:

(This is to make sure it's the right proportions to your head!)

Step 3: cut out the bottom (Eventually I will also be gluing two bobby pins to te bottom so itll stay on my head)

Step 4: Spray it gooooollllllddddd (do it outside!!) I did two coats.

Step 5: Use Gorilla Glue to stick the little jewels to the crown (one jewel per point) This crown has 5 points where Peach's actual one has 4, so i used the 5th point as the back and gave it a clear heart jewel out of any other options really.(And yes I bought Game Change & I am so excited to read it!!)

End result:

Not bad, right? I'm pretty proud of this one considering it started off as a freakin' BUCKET.

So the jewelry is done, i got the shoes, and I also got a long pink zipper for the dress. I've planned out the pieces, but just haven't actually MADE THE DRESS just yet. >_> I'll be (hopefully) working on making a mini-version of the dress tonight/tomorrow if I can once again get my butt in gear. This will help me determine the best way to get all the pieces together. The dress will be made to either fit Christine's stuffed animal or our cat. I have yet to determine how cruel I want to be to that meow monster. Hope you've enjoyed my little how-to of cosplay. Next I'll be doing a step-by-step on the dress. Maybe next weekend. I don't know yet XD Anyway, hope you're happy, and that this inspires  you to start your own cosplay work  sassypants678 !! Happy Valentine's day.
