My sixth thread in a row, or something

James thumbed anxiously through the pages of Bane: Keep Your Family Safe From Werewolves before discarding it and picking up the next one. He had a stack of books beside him which he'd taken out in pretence of doing a research project. Well, it was a research project, it just wasn't going to get assessed ( Read more... )

Eden followed her instincts and headed towards the library. It was getting a little late, but she'd had a small study group to go to and she hadn't seen James yet today.

Reaching the doors, she pulled them open, her sharp eyes lighting on her boyfriend, working studiously. She smiled, happy to see him. She was feeling better now she was in that week or so where the moon wasn't close enough to bother her yet, but had been gone long enough for her to have recovered. It was the time she felt the most...well, normal.

Creeping closer on quiet feet, Eden stepped up behind him. "Boo!" she whispered, right into his ear. He was so distracted she was sure she'd managed to surprise him.

James jumped, his heart leaping into his throat. "Merlin's balls, Eden," he hissed, earning a glare from the librarian. "You almost made me lose my dinner."

Laughing, she slid her hands over his shoulders, sliding them down until she could rest her chin on the top of his head.

"What you doing?" she asked curiously, "'Cus, you know, I'm feeling very good today..." She pressed a quick kiss to his temple, removing one of her hands to wave off the tutting librarian.

"Glad to hear it," he said, letting his book fall closed with his finger to mark the place. He twisted around so he could pull her down by her robes and kiss her properly.

Going easily with the movement, Eden laughed softly as she was deposited clumsily onto his lap.

She kissed him back eagerly, no aches or pains at all plaguing her. "I'm feeling very, very good," she whispered, playing lightly with his hair.

She turned to see what he was studying, to see if it could wait, when her eyes caught the title of the book he was holding. The Curse of the Werewolf: Unfortunate Souls, or Murderous Beasts?

She stared at it in shock for a moment, before turning back to him, her expression blank. "Werewolves?"

"Well, yes," he said, offhandedly. "Not really light reading, believe me, but I'm getting there." He pushed The Curse away and put his arm around her waist. "Actually I could do with a break."

"Getting where?" she asked, frowning. She ignored everything else he'd said, the fact that he was researching werewolves taking up her thoughts.

"James...it's incurable," she whispered, lowering her voice. "What are you thinking?"

He stared at her. "Bit pessimistic, aren't you?"

"Realistic," she countered. "There have been people searching for cures longer than we've been alive. There's nothing."

She looked around the room cautiously. "Stop this James, false hopes get us nowhere..." she said, holding on to her temper to get him to agree.

"Calm down," he said, shocked at her reaction. "I'm just reading, Eden, where's the harm in that."

"Where's the harm?!" she hissed, "How about the fact that it could have been anyone who snuck up on you? How about the fact that even bloody Jamie couldn't help but put two and two together, James! I have to hide this, and you going around reading everything written on werewolves isn't helping!"

"They don't have to know why I'm reading it," he sighed. "I thought you'd be pleased - I'm trying to help..."

Eden snorted harshly. "I'm not a fucking project James. You knew what I was before we got together, don't try and fix me now."

She slid off him, visibly shaking with anger and hurt. "It's not you who'd suffer James, just remember that. You can walk away, and I'll be left to deal with it. Just think about that before you do anymore research on my kind..."

"I'm not walking away!' he said incredulously. "I want to know more, that's all. Don't you want... wouldn't you like to be normal, again?"

"Normal?!" She choked, hurt flashing across her face.

"No matter what I might want, I can't have it. I'll never be normal again. I'm not surprised really, I mean, of course you want me to be normal, I get it, it's not fun or interesting anymore for you. But that doesn't mean you can try and fix me, I'm not broken."

"I know," he said, standing up and reaching hesitantly for her. "I didn't mean it like that, I'm sorry..."
