The clock was so loud in her ears that Scarlett was almost convinced it was doing it on purpose. With each passing second, minute, hour, her despair grew and her the clock ticked more loudly.
Arriving at home had been met with shock, and yet...not a lot of suprise. She'd have loved to have proven both of her parents wrong, to prove that Draco Malfoy was the man who she had ached for him to be for so long...
She'd been bundled off with Mitzi, her old elf, and now she was regretting not agreeing to dinner with her parents and some 'old friends'. All she could do was watch the clock and hope for resolution. This limbo was killing her. Her heart had sunk so low into her stomach, she was sure it could go no further, but as each hour passed and still her husband did not appear, it sank lower.
True loves kiss....
That was what it all came down to, really. She had spent so long loving him that she was sure she could help, that there would be no-one, man or woman, who could love and be loved by Draco more than she. And that wasn't true anymore - if it ever had been.
She was tired; deathly tired, of fighting for her husband, fighting against demons she didn't understand and partners she knew did.
She was no angel, not by any stretch of the imagination, but a married man? One with a very different marriage to theirs...
She just wished he would fight for her. That he would come and ask her to return, to work things out - she knew, even now, that he if but asked, she would return - but he didn't come. He let her leave and he had not yet looked back. She could almost see him with her minds eye, in his lab, working on the curse, barely a thought spared for his absent wife.
Instead, his mind was firmly on his own life, his own family and lover and painting and lab...and he had not even spent the time to send a letter through the floo. It just showed her once more how highly she ranked on his list. And frankly, it wasn't very high.
The clock chimed once more and Scarlett closed her eyes in pain.
