Jack came through the door just in time to see Rose about to leave. "Hey," he called out to her.

"Hey yourself," she replied, turning to face him. "Where've you been?"

"Around," he said, shrugging. "You're up late."

[bright_rose]

"It's not that late," she replied, then looked around the deserted common room. "All right, it is late. I guess I got wrapped up."

He followed her gaze to the empty room. "So," he said. "Long time, no... alone time."

[bright_rose]

"Except the for the other day in the library," she said, giving him a smile.

[jack_friday]

"Right, except for that," he agreed with a grin. "Still... I miss you."

[bright_rose]

"I miss you too," she said, moving closer to give him a kiss on the cheek. "I've just been trying to keep a bit ahead if I can."

"Typical Rose," he sighed over-dramatically. "Don't you realise you don't need to try to be ahead. You are by default."

"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked.

[jack_friday]

"I was giving you a compliment," he said, rolling his eyes.

Rose sighed. It was hard to accept compliments like that when her father said such things all the time in his owls to her. She was naturally supposed to be ahead of everyone else because she was Hermione Granger's daughter.

"It sounds much nicer coming from you than from Dad," she said, looking down at her book, which had his latest letter sticking out of it.

He frowned. "Are you okay?" he asked.

[bright_rose]

"Yeah," she sighed. "Dad just sent me an owl today making sure I'm doing as well as Mum did when she was here."

"That doesn't sound fair," he admitted. "Still, it's nice that he's checking up on you."

"I suppose so," she shrugged.
