Hi everyone,

I made a private post with some memories of our friend Kyle Mesnard (1981-2006), and skamdar said,

Maybe we should all get together somehow sometime and tell each other all of our memories of Kyle as a tribute. That's kind of what we did for my friend... and it proved to be a good way of coping with the pain.

I said in return,

i didn't know kyle that well. i lived on the same floor as him for 3 year, went on a week long roadtrip/ski trip with him, i'd say hi to him everyday, shoot the shit with him on walks to classes, lunches and dinners, and probably played some counterstrike/starcraft with him; but never really got to know him. by this, i mean that i never really learned what he cared about, what his life story was, what made him tick, etc.

my best memories of him are from the vail ski-trip/road-trip we went on spring break 2002. i remember spending a few days just cruising around vail with kyle, todd and dirk -- it was beautiful. i remember him being pretty ballsy and trying some jumps even with some pretty good bails. i remember that there was tension between different people on various parts of the roadtrip but kyle was always laid back and cool about things. i could tell that he was able to dodge or sidestep these small issues that other people argued about. i particularly remember walking through safeway one day and talking to him, i believe with min and dchang. i don't remember what we were talking about, but it was something worth talking about -- as opposed to the shallow, or even pointless, conversations people have most of the time. i remember being surprised and thinking to myself at one point, "man, this guy is actually pretty cool! he's open, easy to talk to, and theres a lot more there that i never knew there was."

the sad thing is that after that, we still never really got to know each other. and now that he is gone, i wish it was different. i wish that i had taken the time, or he had, to hang out and spend time talking about stuff worth talking about. now he'll forever be in my memory as that laid-back, cool guy that i spent a few days with cruising the beautiful vail backbowls...
