Baby Girl

May 08, 2008 10:35

She moved his arm from 'round her ribs
His hands had kept her near
She turned to view the handsome face
Of the sleeping boy so dear
She softly whispered to him
Everything he made her feel
She explained to him how scared she was
And near the end, proposed a deal

Said, "Baby, I will say them first"
"Those three big words we've yet to say"
"You have my heart, and all I ask,"
"Is that you remind me why, each day"
She watched him for a moment longer
Before settling back into his arms
Though her confession laid on sleeping ears
She was blown away, still, by his charm

A week dragged out, still nothing
She tried to say it all week long
Her fears had got the best of her
The girl was usually so strong
Another day was ending
The pair needed some rest
Both worked all day, and laid in bed
Her head upon his chest
He wrapped his arms around that girl
And sweetly kissed her brow
He was awake to hear her quiet words
And it was his turn now

"Baby girl, we need to talk,"
"Your offer just won't work."
He saw panic on her face
Fought to hide a knowing smirk
"Your body, heart, your worried mind,"
"Everything that makes you, you,"
"I'll take it all, and give you mine"
"I'll say it first, babe... I love you."
