I think I might need to watch this one again. I liked it, but I'm just feeling like maybe not as much as I should have? Anna Torv was awesome, John Pyper Ferguson was too, and I liked the Olivias interacting, and I liked some little moments (Astrid and Olivia are closer! So awesome) but overall. I don't know. I feel like they should be doing more to you know ... heal the universe? But then I guess small steps? And I understand it still has to procedural on some level.
I also think I'm more susceptible to seeing 'anvil' moments in Fringe where the procedural plot is clearly on some level all about what's happening elsewhere in Peter or Olivia or Walter's life. I mean, I know in comparison to some shows they are immensely subtle and give the audience a hell of a lot of credit, but I do still find myself bothered by them every now and then.
I did like the change with Olivia's back-story that she did end up killing her stepfather, because Peter never talked to her in the field of tulips (or I assume). That's definitely interesting, and something I didn't see coming. I also liked AltLivia's taken aback reaction to it, because Olivia was so matter-of-fact.
"You type doesn't exist." oh, I see. Subtle. :p
I would also like a moment of silence for AltLincoln's scruff. I know why it's gone (as Seth is playing them both this year), but I miss it all the same.
Still a lot of questions too, but then, I'm not a patient person. ;)
For example, a non Peter related question: why are the Lincolns different? I want to know more about their back-story and what different paths they took. I think that would be interesting.
Yeah. Well. This could have been better.
Good things (of which there were more than I thought):
Danny! All the Danny! From the jokes at the end, to the moment at the end watching the SEALs storm to ... Danny was awesome. I even didn't mind him trying to hook Steve up with Lori, ... too much. Mostly because Steve was like, 'yeah, whatever' and it was a little funny.
Also, speaking of the SEALs scene at the end, that was genuinely well done. You could feel everyone kinda go, 'holy fuck' and Danny was all kinda taken aback but still caring so much about Steve and I think understood Steve a little better in that moment, and Steve clearly missed it just a little bit, and see show, you can do this kinda shit. Do it more! And well, I love SEAL back-story like cake. Cake.
Steve in the blue and black, crossing his arms. Just, mmm.
Super!Steve. The scene was hilarious (and their insurance clearly does not cover throwing Alex out of a plane) - but where did Steve come from?! Is there an Invisible Plane like Wonder Woman involved? (Edit:
no apparently they did throw Alex out of a plane. Awesome. That dude is crazy).
"It's hard being married to a SEAL." Danny knows. Oh, Danny knows.
"You look like Inspector Gadget."
"Why are you blaming yourself?" Aw. Also, Danny drove. Was Steve feeling okay?
Danny manhandling Steve. Yes. (Although, way to be an asshole, Steven).
Danny's hair when they came up on the plane. <3
Bad things:
The rest.
In fact, no, I like Joe fine, but there was too much of him in this, and I think there's the risk of him becoming more and more of a plot device while they're like, 'oh hey we have Terry O'Quinn here, we should use him,' rather than actually needing the character. I do wonder though ... were all his ex-wives redheads ala Gibbs. ;)
Um, Max's jacket says 'Chief Medical Examiner' - did he steal that? How is the Senior Medical Examiner above him?!
Steve, you were a bit of a dick to Max there, dude. A thank you? A little bit of gratitude? C'mon, man. He doesn't even work for you! I do love Steve, but god he was an asshole for a lot of this episode.
I could have done without the Steve and Lori bickering. It just felt forced. Also Lori, you kinda lacked some tact there when you were interviewing the wife.
As for Kono. Oh. I don't know if I've got in it me to rant again right now. I do think they've got too many characters going on and they're not doing this justice, and the lack of anything from Steve and Danny is just badly done, and bad chracterisation. All it would take it one little moment asking after her, and Chin could say "I've got it" and you know what, that would be okay, I'd take that, but we get nothing like that. Nothing! Charlie the Lab tech dude asked for fuck's sake! I've seen the theory that Kono is undercover for IA and okay, sure, that would be cool ... but if that's the case, I still think they have done a shit job foreshadowing it and plotting it.
Show, please do better next week. xx
Also,
OMG someone worked out what all of Steve's medals are! So much love.

In life, eh flat hunting. I was in a good mood and saw a couple of really nice ones yesterday and even talked West Wing marathoning and Tyrion Lannister at one flat (seriously nice place too, although the bond is probably beyond my means). So, hopefully, I guess? Ugh. I am so over this.
Work is fine, if getting a little stressful but la la I am at the bottom of the food chain and just doing what I'm told on this one. The personalities in the team and the office politics are just a little, wow.
Two close friends in town this weekend for another friend's birthday party. I may uh, have a medieval dress hired and uh, there may be blue hair. For no real reason other than I really want blue hair. Or rainbow hair! It's a thing. I blame Scott Pilgrim.
Also, someone just linked me to a
85,000 word Steve/Tony fic by an author whose fics I already know I like. Oh, sleep? Getting other things done? Haha.
