1. Someone wrote me a
really cute Cal and Della ficlet for Yuletide Madness! And it was a sleeping ficlet! I love, love sleeping ficlets and it wasn't even in my Yuletide letter. This person is psychic, clearly.
I have been assembling my Yuletide recs on
my delicious page. Didn't get through as much as I had hoped before the reveal - but then the reveal won't stop me continuing to read. *hearts Yuletide so much*
2. Year-end fandom meme:
Your main fandom of the year?
For the first half: Gen Kill and Marvel Comics (esp Iron Man and Tony/Steve) and Muse.
Second half of the year: Fringe/Josh Jackson. It/he sort of took over my brain. You may have noticed. ;)
There's was also a base level of F1 and Arsenal fannnish-ness going on.
Your favorite film watched this year?
Inception. Toy Story 3. Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
Honourable mention: The Social Network.
Your favorite book read this year?
Uh, the list is not large this year. Shocker. I'd like to say I'm going to get better, but I'm not sure that's true anymore.
Matter by Iain Banks.
Honourable mentions: Wolf Hall - Hilary Mantel, After Dark - Haruki Murakami, An Utterly Impartial History of Britain or 2000 years of Upper Class Idiots in Charge - John O'Farrell.
Graphic novel: Y: The Last Man Vol. 10 - Brian K Vaughan
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
From last.fm. Although its stats aren't perfect, they're closer than anything else I have as my iTunes stats were (purposefully) reset in the middle of the year.
Songs:
1. Florence and the Machine - Kiss With a Fist
2. Metric - Help I'm Alive
3. The Wombats - Kill the Director
4. Them Crooked Vultures - Caligulove
5. Radiohead - Idioteque
6. Muse - MK Ultra
7. Muse - Plug in Baby
8. Band of Skulls - I Know What I Am
8. Muse - Unnatural Selection
8. Sage Francis (feat. Alias and Will Oldham) - Sea Lion
That uh, actually seems about right.
Albums:
1. Muse - Absolution
2. Muse - Inspirations
3. Muse - The Resistance
4. Muse - Origin of Symmetry
5. Muse - Showbiz
First non-Muse album: 8. Florence and the Machine - Lungs.
Um, wow, that's even worse than last year. I didn't think I was that bad.
Your favorite TV shows of the year?
Fringe, Mad Men, Community, The Daily Show, numerous UK panel shows.
.
Your favorite fan community of the year?
AO3? ;) Also Tumblr has changed my fannish experience a little this year (mostly in a good way) where before I was using it as less of a fandom thing, and the Joshua Jackson Fan Forum boards ... what?
Your best new TV discovery of the year?
Fringe. Community is a close-ish second.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Fringe's ratings. :( - and no doubt other things I'm not remembering at this moment.
Edit: True Blood S3. Now, my expectations of TB aren't exactly high, and I do watch a lot of it for Eric, but oy, that was a bad season. I don't know if I'm going to keep watching or not.
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Peter Bishop.
Honourable mentions: Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Troy Barnes, Jeff Winger (I know, but I seem to like arrogant smart-asses and well, Joel McHale).
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Amy Pond. Olivia Dunham. Astrid Farnsworth.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
It's bound to have been related to Fringe or Josh being a tall, geeky, adorable, hilarious, hot person.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Seeing Kristen Bell around the place has made me miss Veronica Mars. Also, The West Wing, just because.
The TV you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Breaking Bad, followed by The Walking Dead, Terriers and Rubicon (I know the last two are cancelled, but I'm still curious) and I do keep mean to take a look at Deadwood.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
End of S3 of Fringe and hopefully its continuation to S4! *crosses everything* I'm not even asking for a whole 22 ep season (although that would be awesome), I know the numbers aren't great, just give it the ending it deserves, Fox. Please?
Just randomly,
I looked at what I put for this question last year, and I've actually done all of the things on it. Football game? Check. F1 Grand Prix? Check (plus bonus rural Belguim excursion). Moar gigs? Check! Meeting fangirls, check. Success!
3. Boris Johnson (Mayor of London) wrote
a slightly insane editorial asking for Keith Richards to be given a knighthood. First off, Boris haven't you got better things to be doing? Also, if you knew your Stones history, you'd know how much shit Keith gave Mick for his and I would be so surprised if he accepted it. Still, just WTF?
I thought I had more to link to or mention but I can't remember right now. Most of my tabs are links to
pretty pictures on Tumblr or
Josh GIFs (*stares* I really need to see Americano .... )
Oh shit, yes, a) I finally saw Daniel Radcliffe on QI! I don't quite know how I missed he was going to be on it Christmas Eve. His extensive knowledge of random facts and nervousness was extremely endearing, and b) I went to a Scott Pilgrim screening and Q&A last night with Edgar Wright. Very cool. Still love the movie and Edgar was adorable, as was the geeky audience. <3
Going out for a few drinks at friends' house in a bit. Should hopefully be a quiet one, but not sure it will work out that way tbh.
Happy New Year, all! Whether it's already gotten to you or will arrive shortly.
