If you are considering meeting people online, I've actually been on a site called OK Cupid for quite some time. Not that I've actually met anyone on it, but I really don't utilize the option very well. I know friends who have. And quite honestly, statistically, meeting people online has become much more common than the average person might think.
OK Cupid's got a system that matches you based off things you look for, and the way you view certain things, combined with interests and personality types. It's rather scientific (as full of shit as that sounds :P). And it's free, and not creepy! Well, maybe just not as creepy ^^; It's more like an online community (such as Facebook) only for people with the intent of actually meeting others, regardless of exactly what kind of relationship you're actually looking for (you can specify too...if you want people to know you're up for a "fling" or simply just friendship). If you don't actually meet someone on there, there are still a bunch of fun and stupid quizzes that you can take. So, mindless and fun entertainment at the very least. Might be something you could look into.
Touching, rather quickly, on the fling thing...if you're concerned that you'd lose your self-respect, you just may. You know yourself better than anyone. And if you're already having a sinking feeling about it, then...well, that should tell you something. Do what's comfortable, and do what you won't regret. This is, in no way, me trying to tell you what to do, trying to influence your decision in any way, or judging you based on any decision you may come to. Just a friendly reminder of things you already know :P
I think Mom knows how ridiculous the conversations sounded after she got off the phone....or maybe Dad told her since he heard some of it...I know she has my best interests in mind, just that now it's really clear where I've inherited my foot-in-mouth syndrome. I just couldn't help posting them--looking back, these could be lines straight out of a movie! Particularly that bit about...*whisper*...porno movies.
