I like Ike!....for the extra day off...

I know exactly why I end up frustrated now during the lessons where I am having the kids work on their own and why I always seems to be dealing with a circus--I never make it clear that they need to be seated by consistently yelling at the ones who keep screwing up because my head keeps spinning with the latest fire I need to put out. Yell more. Check. Keep everybody busy with something. Check. Keep demanding everybody's attention so they don't go wandering off. Check. There is nothing more disruptive to learning than idle hands and bored heads; there must be an objective for them to accomplish at all times, even if it's picking up the trash on the floor or getting a pencil out.

I'm a little worried about a student I have during my last period--she is under control now and will do work as long as I leave her alone, but she has an explosive temper that always seems to be at a boil whenever 7th period rolls around from whatever crap she's accumulated from the day. I'm afraid something will set her off one day and I'll have to call security. She clearly has authority issues, but so far her friends seem to be able to contain her and influence her to stay on task. But I wish she'd find therapy or anger management classes. Will call home to find out what the deal is.

In preparation for Hurricane Ike, I'm stocked up to my chin with canned food and bottled water and duct tape, but I wouldn't be completely prepared without a bottle of Yellow Tail Pinot Noir wine. And true to Tinachris-snafu form, I just found out I don't have a cork screw. Bugger. On the bright side, I have an extra three-day weekend! But if the power goes out, look me up in Austin because damn if I'm going 72 hrs without the Internet!

Edit: PARENTS KEEP CALLING EVERY FIVE MINUTES. Pic of preparations--

Note bottle of wine. =9

Ike?? No problem! =)
