an icon rant (or even erich can do this stuff)
wow, I think this is my first icon rant (well, sort of a rant) ever ;)
I had the bad idea to look through random icon comms (that don't feature my fandoms) and wow was I disappointed. I mean the icons are mostly very well done, but uniqueness? no way! there are basically two styles, the clean&crispy and the light texture look. there are some variations but boy, even the variations are repeated over and over again.
where did the originality disappear to? I mean I have some of the most talented and creative icon makers on my flist so I do see gorgeous and unique things on a regular base but goddamn what happened to the rest of the world? *g*
I mean, everyone can make these icons... I can hardly recognize who made them (actually not at all...). see, even Erich (for those of you who don't know, this is my Photoshop's name *g*) can make icons all by himself...
hmm he has some serious issues with text though, but if I would give him some text brushes I'm sure he did some nice work with them, too ;P just saying...
and on a sidenote: if I would have gotten a penny for every time I've seen my light textures (from the set where comment&credit was mandatory *g*) used without credit while looking through the random comms I'd have, well, at least some pocket money right now ;) funny thing is that those icon makers vehemently insist on credit for their work *g*
I don't know if I should find this amusing or annoying. I'm not very anal about this credit business (even though I always credit anyone else), but it's kinda sad to see that politeness and common sense are disappearing as quickly as originality and creativity...
so look, this is what Erich made, actually he made around 3.646 (in words: three thousand six hundred fourty-six) icons like this today while I was enjoying the sun... he's a busy little beaver... but I thought I display only some (randomly) selected ones of them... I've already uploaded 227 AtS icons and 285 BtVS icons but I thought that would be a bit too much... *g* I can post them though in the rare case that there's any interest ;)

and you can absolutely use them as bases. add some brushes. add some text. everything is fine for me...
oh, and because Erich cannot think of text and I had this fabulous idea together with my sweet monanotlisa when we had our Buffy watching night, that icon makers and fanfic writers should more oftenly work together so that text and graphics finally come together *g*, it'd be great if you can find a good line for any of these icons. I kinda dare you ;P
and *squeee* Anna, aphroditesflesh, your package has arrived. Please tell your mom it's absolutely gorgeous. I've put it on the wall right over my computer :D
