Who: Niki & Dave
When: Saturday evening
Where: Dave’s room
What:Some Bro Time
Niki was in a funk over the entire Thanksgiving thing. Most people were getting excited, only a few more weeks until they went home for a week. Not so for Niki, he wasn’t sure where he was going or if he was going anywhere, but it wasn’t home, he at least knew that much. His parents wouldn’t be there and while he had spent last Thanksgiving at home alone on the ranch, he was not doing that again this year. After about two days he had been climbing the walls.
In order to avoid his own problems, he decided to check in and nose about in the problems of others. It wasn’t perhaps the right thing to do, but it was at least something to do. That led him down the hall to his grand-little, Dave Karofsky’s, room. Knocking on the door, he waited to see if the other Bristle was there.
David had already made up his mind about not going home for Thanksgiving, no matter how much his mother had pleaded. He didn’t want to--especially with the fresh, rejuvenated feeling that came with liberating himself from lying to Fio for any longer. And now he had but two goals: winning Kurt over(/coming out/being happy) and getting Jason and Fio to stop tip-toeing around each other.
He looked up at the knock and tossed the barely read book aside, then swung his legs over. He practically bounced over to the door and opened it with a grin. “Hey!” David greeted excitably.
“Hey yourself,” Niki smiled at Dave, “What’s got you in a good mood?” he was tempted to ask if Dave got laid, but he resisted. Just because that was another problem he had did not mean that he had to foist it on others. He had a reputation to maintain and a house of Thornes to run, not to mention helping run the Thornes in general.
“Fio and I broke up!” He announced, backing into the room to let Niki inside. He spoke louder than usual, and rather proudly. “We’re still friends, and we aren’t dating. It’s awesome.” Dave puffed out his chest with a smirk.
Well, that was unexpected, “Congrats,” Niki said, meaning it as he entered the room and straddled Dave’s desk chair. “Can I ask what happened or should I just start limiting your coffee intake for a day or two?”
Dave pretended to consider it. “Maybe a little of both?” He chuckled. “Nah.. it’s just..” David sat on the bed before continuing. “We were at the movies, with Jason and Kurt and Mike, and Fio was freaked out. So as her boyfriend I offered to hang out with her outside the theatre.” David leaned back on his palms. “We started talking, and we both kind of knew there wasn’t that romantic aspect there. And.. well.. I...” Dave swallowed, but couldn’t stop smiling. “I came out to her.”
“You did?” Niki’s eyebrows almost went up into his hairline. “And she’s cool with it?” well, he knew she would be in time, she was friends with both him and Kurt, but it was different when it was your boyfriend coming out to you. Even at 15, that was a big thing. “I’m proud of you.”
“She was kinda surprised, I guess,” he shrugged, “but other than that? She was completely cool with it.” Dave grinned. “I’m pretty proud too, y’know? That’s two people.” He said, almost in astonishment, to himself.
Then David laughed again. “Except now she’s getting a little crazy trying to get me and Kurt together,” Dave rolled his eyes. “I told her she’s crazy but, you know, she won’t listen.”
“And you get a reward,” Niki promised him. “Not soap either,” he added before the other guy could protest. “And I thought you liked Kurt?” he had seen Dave watch him at practices and things sometimes. It made sense. It was subtle, but it was there. That Niki knew Dave was gay helped him to spot it, otherwise, he probably never would have realized.
“I do.” Dave agreed. “I...I really like him. As a friend, and, I mean...you know. As more.” Dave mumbled a little sheepishly. “But...I dunno...I don’t think I can come out, just like that,” he snapped his fingers for emphasis, “and Kurt doesn’t strike me as the type to dig a closeted, kind-of-asshole boyfriend.”
No, Kurt was definitely not the type to put up with having a boyfriend in the closet. “I’m not going to force you out, Dave,” Niki assured him. He would never do that, even if he thought that Dave coming out would be a good idea for everyone, “But you’ve told two people and both have embraced you unconditionally. So that’s a good starting point. And telling Kurt, even if he isn’t into you, wouldn’t hurt. Or get you you hurt either. If anything, it would probably make you two closer.”
Dave nodded slowly. “Yeah, I’d thought about that.” He shrugged, yet again; his posture slouched. “I’m, like, torn. Between telling Kurt and yeah, maybe we’d get closer. Or just keeping my head down and laying low.” He looked at Niki with a sad smile. “I just don’t know.”
“So what’re you doing for Thanksgiving?” Niki asked changing the subject. He needed to think about what he was going to do for Dave for telling Fio and breaking up with her and all that. And he should find out if Fio needed a shoulder or not.
“Stayin’ here.” David replied, thankful for the subject change. “I’m feeling just... really good, and I know that going home would kill that good mood. It took a lot of convincing, but my mom finally gave in.” David flopped back onto his bed, and stared up at the ceiling. “You?”
“Dunno,” Niki regarded him thoughtfully for a moment, “You wanna go somewhere? Can you?” He wanted to go somewhere, but he hadn’t really wanted to go alone. He was thinking though, they could go somewhere where no one knew either of them, it wouldn’t be hard, maybe hit up a gay bar or something. Sure, they were both seriously underage, but they had to be something, right?
“Somewhere...?” Dave sat up a bit. “Like where?” He reclined again. “I mean, yeah I definitely wanna get out. The only time I’ve been going out lately has been with Fio and Kurt. So yeah, I want to go somewhere.” Dave sat up fully. “Did you have a place in mind?”
“Disney World,” Niki replied with a grin. “I’m serious. I wanna go. I’ve never been. And anyways, there’re beaches. And guys....” he waggled his eyebrows. He had no idea if it was warm enough there in November to go to the beach, but it sounded good regardless.
David laughed, loudly. “Dude, you’re crazy.” All the same he sat up and extended his fist for a fist bump. “That sounds wicked, dude.” Dave agreed.
“You’re in?” Niki asked, bumping Dave’s fist. “Me and you then. Disney. I’ll get it done. Because this is too epic not to. But I’ve got one condition,” he grinned wickedly, “You gotta find a guy, who is not me, to hook up with.”
David blushed, but grinned a little wider. “Why not you?” He whined, teasingly. Dave laughed. “Alright, fine. But if I get like, kidnapped or something, it’s your fault.” He retorted.
“That’s fine,” Niki agreed, “And because I’m your grand-big. It’d be like...incest. And while we might be perversions of nature, we are not going there. Anyways, I will hopefully be busy with my own studly hunk to pay you any attention.” He smirked at the mental image.
David actually snorted a bit, with hid laugh. “I’m sure you will be.” Dave agreed, still laughing. “This is gonna be awesome.”
