Log: Group Date Swap

Nov 05, 2011 10:24

Who: Dave, Fio, Jason, Kurt and Mike
When: Friday, November 04, 2011
Where: Athletic Field then the local mall
What: Group date

Kurt had spent far too long on his outfit. He wasn’t worried about arriving late seeing as he had planned a solid 4 hours preparation time in order to primp, select, and arrange himself and his ensemble. He had to be perfect. Not too fabulous and give away all of his future possible dates, but not too subtle as to lose the boy’s eye. He had an irrational with to run to Fio’s room and dress her entirely in mauve just so she would blend in with the wall. She was the only female at their little ‘group date feeling out if Mike might actually like Kurt’ thing and Kurt didn’t want her femaleness to risk any change of Mike’s eyes going to her. Shut up. He was allowed to be irrational.

All of the fuss caused him to arrive early. Now he looked over-eager and desperate. He looked across the athletic field. This was where Fio said to meet right?! Please let someone other then Mike arrive next!

Jason walked up to Kurt, murmuring his greetings to the other boy. Fio had asked him to join them. To support Kurt, she said, as they tried to ascertain Mike's feelings for their friend. The girl seemed rather excited about it. He couldn't tell for sure since she was rather muted in all their practices. Several times, he had tried to tell her that the Asian boy was most definitely straight and had his eye on someone else. It was obvious really, with the way Michael had acted around his date. But he wasn't able to get a word in, all his attempts having been cut off by a squeal or some variation thereof. Eventually, he decided that him going was a good thing. He'd be able to keep an eye on things easier that way.

Kurt saw... oh no. Asian... It was Mike already! Did that mean he was eager too, that they would laugh and blush and begin flir.... “Oh it’s you. Why are you here so early?”

“I’m not early. I’m on time,” he tapped the watch strapped to his wrist pointedly.

“Is it time already? Gaga it’s time already!” Kurt fussed at his bangs. “Do I look alright? Oh why am I asking you? You haven’t the fashion sense to begin to comprehend my askance.”

Fio was running as usual. When wasn't she late? Honestly, despite being on time for once, Fio assumed that she had taken too long getting ready in a dark purple sweater and short black skirt. She even managed to get her hair into a cute updo with a purple butterfly hair clip.

Today was going to be a little strained. She was here with Jason and Dave. The two hadn't really been around each other yet, but Fio already knew that she was going to be comparing the two. The talk with Kurt the other day made her think about Jason and just what she was feeling towards him. It made her feel awkward as she sifted through those feelings, and a little difficult to be around Jason as she thought things out. It was one of the reasons she had been so excited for Kurt. It was easier to talk about today normally than anything else she could think of.

“Hey! Sorry I’m late.” She shouted finally before going to each of them and hugging them.

Dave ran his fingers through his hair, ruffling his short brown curls as a distraction. One hand shoved into his coat pocket, he set out down the steps from his room and hurriedly trotted to the designated meet-up place. Blinking against the slight wind rapidly, his mind was on fire with thoughts and speculations. He’d have to be stupid if he didn’t catch the...subtle? No that wasn’t right. Dave shook his head to clear his mind before continuing with the train of thought--Dave would’ve had to have been stupid to not see the not-quite-subtle, but far from extravagant signs that Fio like liked Jason.

He smirked briefly to himself, seeing his companions not far; while he was...pretty much beyond nervous about the ‘double date’--especially since the whole fighting-oh shit-this-is-really-tense thing with Fio lately--he saw Jason as an escape route. One he was sure Fio wouldn’t mind.

David raised a hand in greeting. “Sup.” He grunted.

Kurt was not pleased with Fio. He shouldn’t have taught her how to dress properly. She looked lovely and was sure to draw Mike’s attention. It wasn’t fair. She already had the eyes of two boys. Kurt hugged, smoothing his hair again. Why did Mike have to come late? Or last...or whatever. Even the behemoth showed up before him. “Fio are you sure you told him the correct time?” Kurt didn’t even acknowledge Dave.

“Yes? I told him right now.” She said as she made her way to give Jason his hug, leaving Dave for last. They were arguing, but she wasn't going to let that ruin today for Kurt. So when it was his turn, she hugged him and kissed him lightly. “Hey. I got here before you for once.”

Dave watched the three hug, a eerie calm having settled over him. He cared about Fio, a lot. You don’t date someone like Fio and not care about her. But Niki was right, and Dave had his plan. If he wasn’t going to be out, he shouldn’t be using Fio as a beard. David kissed her absentmindedly, smiling though because being around her was always nice--aside from fighting. He chuckled. “Yeah, you did. Least I’m not the very last, though.” He joked back. Dave kept his arm resting at the small of her back, for now.

Kurt paced again, noticing the couple. He pressed his lips together. Good. If Dave kept that up then when Mike finally arrived he would know that Fio was not the one to be looking at. “Come on...”

Mike knew he was running late, the super late kind and not the fashionably late kind. He didn’t plan on being late. No one really plans for that. He was all set to arrive early because that was the polite thing to do. He didn’t know them that well after all. Kurt, Dave and Jason were Thornes. He was on the team with some of them. And Fio, he just met the other day. He figured they’d make small talk or whatever. So, there, he had a plan. Except fate seemed to have something against him today. It started in English and carried on until his last class. And when he thought he could relax in his room while he passed the time, his roommate had to go bother him.

He walked up to the group, an apologetic smile on his face. He really really hoped they didn’t mind his tardiness. It was a bad first impression to make. “Hey, guys. Sorry for, you know, being late.”

Kurt, now that he was faced with Mike’s arrival he wished he’d stayed away longer. What was he supposed to say? He moved back a step, unknowingly back toward Dave. He offered a smile to Mike, but said nothing.

David didn’t notice it right away; he had his arm looped dutifully around Fio, and his attention was on Jason, plotting just how he could smoothly let it slip--”Oh hey! My girlfriend is sort of in love with you and I’m perfectly okay with it!”--without being too...uncouth. What Dave didn’t plan on was Kurt backing up just enough to run into the toes of Dave’s shoes, causing him to jerk back, away from Fio, and flail lightly.

He firmly set a foot behind him for balance, eyes wide as he watched Kurt stumble.

Fio blinked as she felt Dave jump away from her. What was it now? Did she have cooties now or something? She was about to frown and say something when there was a Kurt scuttling back towards her. Quickly she jumped to the side and out of the way. “Ack!”

Kurt jolted, stumbling on Dave’s foot, arms flinging out to both sides to try to steady himself. He found himself falling with a soft ‘oof’ back against the much broader boy. Oh Gaga he’d tripped! He hadn’t said a word to the boy he was set up with and he’d already tripped and fallen and.... God!

Instinctively, Dave opened his arms and let Kurt crash onto his chest; also out of common sense he dropped his arms to steady Kurt. He looks down with a pink face and wide eyes--though something told him he wouldn’t be receiving a grand thank you from Kurt for catching him. “You okay?” He asked gruffly.

Kurt’s face flushed brightly, the shock and embarrassment speeding his heart. “I’m fine!” He snapped instantly at Dave, trying not to notice the strength in the arms that caught him. Had his entire shoulder span really fit across the other boy’s chest? Men shouldn’t be allowed to be built that large. Well... at least it solved the problem of Kurt being unable to speak.

Jason watched it all play out. Mike had arrived. Kurt stumbled and it set off a chain reaction. His hand shot out to grab Fio’s arm, steadying her. “Be careful.” He helped her right herself before letting go. “Shall we get going?”

Fio felt the strong arm grab her’s and blinked up to Jason. Her cheeks reddened against her will and she nodded. “Thanks...” Fio wanted to smack herself for how breathless she sounded. “Yeah, let’s get going since Mike got here.” She tried to make her voice sound more solid with that phrase and smiled to the group.

Dave kind of smirked down at Kurt, feeling just the slightest shiver run along his spine at being so close. That happened... well, almost whenever they ended up in contact. But he put the thought aside--if he wasn’t allowed a girlfriend as a cover for his secret, no way he’d even try to get a secret boyfriend--let alone Kurt--instead he focused on getting the situation a little more normal. He squeezed Kurt’s arm delicately once, making sure he was steady before stepping back. David smirked again, much lighter and more privately this time, as he caught the blush spreading across Fio’s cheeks.

He still had to play his part though, so before they all began walking again, Dave slid over to Fio and rubbed her shoulder. “You alright?” He asked with a sympathetic smile.

Was it a bad thing not to want your boyfriend to come over? She wanted a little more time beside Jason. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks to Jason." she smiled to him before shaking her head a little "Alright, let's get going."

Mike didn’t know what to do. All of a sudden, he felt like the fifth wheel. What was he doing here again? Oh yeah, Fio asked him to hang out with her friends. Cool. He just shrugged and smiled good-naturedly at them. “Shuttle’s this way. Let’s go!”

Kurt immediately moved to the bus, trying to distance himself from the lingering warmth of Dave’s body. He didn’t need the footballer to help him! He swiped his bus-pass before setting himself on the first set of seats, hoping Mike would sit beside him. “So Paranormal Activity 3 just came out. Since it is close to Halloween perhaps we could go for the terror factor.”

Dave slid his hand down Fio’s arm, linking fingers though her attention was far more oriented towards Jason. He fumbled into a bus seat, cursing them to infinity, but managed to find a comfortable, albeit slouching position. He patted the seat beside him, smiling up at Fio; Dave’s eyes darted to Kurt momentarily as he spoke. “Horror movies rock. I’m game.”

Fio sighed and moved to sit beside Dave. "Do we have to? I hate horror movies. She said with a shutter. "They always freak me out." Fio knew she should try to pay more attention to Dave, but her eyes glanced to Jason and Mike. "You two like scary movies?"

Mike wondered where he would sit. Jason had already gone off on his own and he didn’t want to bother the older boy. Honestly? Jason kinda scared him. He grinned at Kurt as he took the seat next to him. “Scary movies are the bomb! I love ‘em.”

Kurt blushed, just barely suppressing a pleased little giggle. “Me too. I can’t help be like them.” Honestly Kurt mainly liked watching the theatrical presentation and make-up techniques, but that was neither here nor there with the other boy willingly sitting beside him.

Dave smirked over at Kurt, unseen. He doubted that Kurt honestly liked scary movies, but he wasn’t about to say that out loud. “Hey Kurt,” he called over the rumbling, bumbling noises of the bus. “What’s your favorite scary movie?” David asked.

“Oh...let’s see. I liked Scream even if it is terribly dated. And it might seem old but there’s just something about Bela Lugosi that can’t be matched my any of the modern vampiric films even Twilight and it’s rash of adorable men.”

Fio sighed as they talked about horror films. Honestly, she couldn't stand them. They freaked her out to no end and she was fairly sure that she was going to be up most of tonight. Maybe she’d go sneak to the athletics field to practice.

“Scream was awesome, have you seen American Horror Story? It’s messed up, but so good.” He leaned back to get a better look at the other half of his conversation. “I love shitty, B horror films, that are just so bad, they’re good.” He sighed happily, and then chuckled. “I don’t think it’s hard to outdo Twilight.”

“Twilight has it’s charm. Of course it could be vastly improved by ditching the extraneous Mary Sue and letting the boys have a love story. Romeo and Juliet...via paranormal genre.” Kurt would deny to his grave that he tried his hand at rewriting the story with just such an outcome. “I haven’t seen American Horror Story yet. Have you Mike?” If he had wanted to chat with Dave he would have done it after football. This was about drawing out his potential dancing Asian man of a maybe romantic leaning toward him...

Mike was just patiently listening to their conversation. Somehow, the topic turned to Twilight and Kurt’s opinions was amusing him so. He was content in his non-speaking role and was therefore surprised when his seatmate addressed him. “Uh...no?” He wanted to watch it. He heard stuff about it and admittedly, it made him curious. “But I do want to. Watch it, I mean.”

Kurt instantly perked. An opportunity! “We should watch it together.”

“Sure sure, sounds good to me. It’ll be fun,” he replied with a smile.

“After the movie, we should get some ice cream.” She offered, trying to get the topic away from scary movies for a moment. “There’s Coldstones right by the theater. Niki and I went there awhile ago.”

“Ice cream!” Mike beamed at Fio. Scary movies and ice cream tonight? Hell yeah! Suddenly, he didn’t mind being the fifth wheel too much now. “We’re definitely gonna get ice cream.”

Fio grinned. “Another ice cream lover, awesome! It almost impossible to get these guys for ice cream sometimes.” Kurt always complained about it going straight to his hips and Jason didn't like sweets very much. She glanced back to the older Asian and sighed. “You know you can join in the conversation any time now Jase.”

Jason turned back from the window. “I think you were doing just fine without my input. You may continue.”

Dave watches, happy to observe for a moment; he’s good with ice cream even if it isn’t his ultimate favorite--he’s more of a sweet, candy kind of guy. But the movie should at least rock. “C’mon Jason, let loose. Have a little fun.” Okay, now he recognizes that he’s being--purposefully--obnoxious. And he loves it. (But for the sake of his life, he promises to himself to tone it down)(Just a tad.)

“I’m here, aren’t I?” He replied, eyebrow cocked up at Dave.

Fio smirked and shook her head. “Oh! That reminds me, my music teacher was amazed with me this week. She was shocked at the rate of improvement. She says that I’ll definitely make it through the first round like this.”

“Don’t get too excited. There are still other rounds, Fio.”

She frowned a little and huffed. She at least was hoping for a good job, or I know that you’ve improved. “I know. I’m doing really well though, better than she thought I would at this point before the competition.”

“Keep working on it and you just might sneak into the semi-finals.” And that was as far as he could see her go. There simply wasn’t enough time to get her up to par with the front runners of this competition.

Her eyebrows furrowed at that. Didn't he have any faith in her? She looked away from him and tried not to let that sour her mood. That was the last thing she needed was to ruin this evening for Kurt because it hurt her feelings that the boy she liked didn't think she could. “Glad you have such faith in me....” She said softly and looked out towards the window.

It wasn’t that he didn’t have faith in her abilities. It was because he knew the competition. He was friends (sort of) with the competition. They were with him at Pre-College. They will be with him at the College Division. They were simply that good. Jason sighed and turned away. He didn’t think anyone would be interested in what he had to say now.

Dave listened to their interaction with a bit of a frown; Jason wasn’t the type of guy David would have pegged for Fio’s type. But hey, what did he know? Just that Jason was who Fio liked; and that Jason was better than Dave, in the long run. He dropped a hand to Fio’s and gripped it softly. “I bet you’re great.” He says, though he doubts it’ll help much. David stared at Fio a moment longer before announcing. “How much longer till the theater?”

“This is our stop actually.” Kurt pipped in. Really how long did it take for Dave to remember how to be supportive of his girlfriend? No wonder Fio’s affections were slipping toward Jason... though he could not understand the attraction. Kurt resisted attempting to tug Mike with him as he stood to get off. Calm...small steps not big leaps, Kurt.

Mike leaped from his seat and followed Kurt down the bus. For a moment, things were getting kinda intense and he just wanted to get away from it all.

Dave stood, and held out a gentlemanly hand for Fio, smirking a little lopsided. “Ready to have some fun?” He said, still speaking quietly, privately to Fio.

Fio was surprised that he had even offered the compliment. She gave a small smile and nodded. “Yeah... I am...” She was grateful for that little moment. “Let’s go.” The theater was actually pretty quiet for a weekend afternoon. There were other teens about, but not too many so the theater was sure not to be full at the very least

Kurt moved along, trying to walk next to the dancer without being obvious. His excitement ended up seering his walk away from his normal sway into almost a prance on the balls of his booted feet. “So Mike are you a front of the theater, back of the theater, or in the very center type of man?”

“Center. Definitely center.” It offered him an awesome view, not too close, not too far from the screen. The only downside was when he has the misfortune to sit in front of some kid who couldn’t stop kicking the back of his seat. It sucked.

“Center is pretty awesome. Alright, let’s grab seats.” She motioned for them to walk. The most important people to sit beside each other was Mike and Kurt. She and Dave were expected to sit beside each other and she wanted Jason to sit beside her. So that left Kurt and Dave beside each other. That would work. She moved to grab Jason’s hand to stop him so Mike could walk in first, followed by Kurt.

Jason looked at her questioningly. Seeing her gesture at Mike and Kurt, he sighed and let it be. Fio would probably huff and fuss at him if he were to throw a wrench in her plans. He waited for everyone to take a seat before sitting down. “Happy?”

Fio gave him a smile and squeezed his hand gently. “Yes, thank you.” she leaned towards him. “Kurt’s excited for today.”

“I can tell,” he deadpanned, sneaking a glance at Kurt.

She rolled her eye, but smiled at him. “Let him be excited. It’s not every day he gets to hang out with the boy he likes.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Jason had turned his gaze on the screen now, effectively halting their conversation.

Dave sort of waddled down the aisle of seats close behind Kurt. He sat before Kurt, feeling rather like a giant in the seats. A few miscellaneous commercials were playing on the big screen, advertising meals and this TV show or that foundation. He looked over and Fio and Jason, then swung his gaze over to Kurt and Mike; Dave wasn’t sure what the deal was, aside from the crush that was practically pouring out of Kurt, but he got the feeling this wasn’t going to end well.

Mike took his seat beside Kurt. He couldn’t help but tap his foot on the floor. He was little bit excited. Well, a lot excited to be honest. The awful commercials had stopped and previews and trailers took its place. He loved previews. They were awesome.

Kurt was far less interested in the previews then he was watching Mike react to them. He found himself sitting beside Mike, hands clasped together in his lap. He glanced to the screen, smiling when he noticed the actor. “Zachary Quinto is quite the actor isn’t he?”

“Yeah, I guess. Sure.” He wasn’t familiar with him at all. He knew the guy was in Heroes and the new Star Trek. He enjoyed both. But that was the extent of his knowledge about the guy.

“Zachary Quinto rocks.” Dave agreed, briefly looking at Kurt. “He’s gonna be on an episode of American Horror Story, y’know.” David mentioned casually. “S’gonna be awesome.”

“Who?” Fio asked as she tilted her head. She was not one of those girls who followed actors... unless they were Asian.... in Asian shows.

David turned to Fio, a vaguely scandalized look on his face. “Dude,” he said it, though he knew how girls weren’t fond of it. Or, most weren’t. He’d never actually taken the time to see if Fio did. Hm. “Spock in the newest Star Trek? He just came out like, two weeks ago?” Despite the incredulous-ness, it’s still a light tone.

“Oh! I know who he is then...wait he came out? Came out of what?” That was an even more confusing statement that Fio had no idea about. The movie had come out awhile ago, her friends and her had gone. She still had the trek costume from it in her closet.

Dave blinked slowly. “Came out of the closet...?” He replied slowly before looking to Kurt. “You’d heard about that, right?”

“Naturally. I didn’t bother to see Star Trek until he did. It put a whole new...and already blatantly sub-textual twist on Kirk and Spock’s dynamic. Though the hairstyle has to go.” Kurt smiled, glad to be able to have someone of similar interest talking to him...who knew it would be Dave. “He’ll be in American Horror Story? Even more reason we have to see it right Mike?”

“Spock in a Horror show? Righteous! We gotta see it ASAP!” Mike commented with a grin.

Kurt’s stomach did those delightful little flips as his face heated to Mike’s words. He was about to say something back, but the opening credits began. Kurt leaned toward Mike. “My apologies if I grab onto you during the movie.” Because it was just polite...and now he had an excuse.

Mike turned to Kurt, whispering back, “that’s cool. Um, as long as your nails are not sharp or whatever. That might hurt.” He didn’t mind it. Nope, not at all. He had long since accepted that Kurt had...girlish tendencies. It was weird at first when the boy first preached about proper hair care, facial care and the benefits of moisturizers but he and the rest of the team got used to it. He now thought of it as Kurt being Kurt.

Kurt beamed. He moved his hand over, displaying his perfect nails with the clear strengthening coating. “I get frequent manicures. Never fear.”

He leaned closer, taking a look at the offered hand. Kurt’s nails were short so it was all good. “Cool. Go and um...grab away.”

Fio looked over Dave to see Kurt and Mike talking and couldn't stop the smile from crossing her face. This was turning out perfectly for Kurt. Now she just needed to try to figure out her own love life. On one side was her boyfriend, on the other was one of her best friends and the boy she wanted as her boyfriend. What was she gonna do. After a minute she turned to Jason and whispered softly. “Do you get scared at horror movies?”

Jason looked down at Fio, a flash of annoyance appearing on his face. He absolutely abhorred talking inside the theater. He silently shook his head before turning back to the screen.

She bit her bottom lip at his scowl before sinking down into her seat. Why was she here again? Horror movies were terrifying and usually Fio went out of her way not to see them. It seems that all of the others were going to be completely find. Mike and Dave were excited, Jason was apathetic, and the only thing that could honestly scare Kurt was a bad hair day.

He could see movement from the corner of his eye. Fio was flinching and whimpering every so often even though nothing of consequence, in his opinion, was happening on screen. Jason sighed and leaned close to the girl. “Stop that. It’s just a movie.”

Fio jumped when he spoke and immediately turned to him. His comment made her shake her head and bite her bottom lip. “I really hate scary movies...” She whispered back so only Jason could hear so she didn't ruin everyone else’s time.

“I can see that. You can just...close your eyes and ignore the sounds then.”

That was his answer? Why didn't she just take a nap for the next two hours? Letting out a small sigh she covered her eyes with her hands, but that just started to make things worse because she started to imagine everything that could be happening. So she opened her eyes again. “Didn’t work.”

“You can always step out of the theater?” Part of him knew she wouldn’t do it. But still, it was a vaible option.

“I don't want to go alone.” She really hated the idea of spending two hours outside of a theater while her friends were within. Instead she just tried to remind herself that it was a horror movie, not reality.

Dave, who had been alternating his gaze from the movie to Kurt, and resisting the urge to jump--he loved horror movies because they scared the shit out of him--finally looked over at Fio. He leaned over, much like Jason was, and whispered. “Are you okay?” David asked rubbing his thumbs across her hand gently.

Fio jumped like a foot at the sound of Dave’s voice and the feel of his hand before shaking wildly. “Not really. I hate horror movies.” She hissed to him.

Dave frowned. “Do you wanna leave? I can go with.” Though he was intrigued by the movie, he knew it was his duty--and he would let himself down if he wasn’t a gentleman in at least some regards. “We can wait outside if you want.”

Fio smiled a little at Dave’s offer. He seemed so excited to watch the movie though. Part of her really wanted to take him up on his offer, and the rest of her felt bad doing that. In the end she shook her head and sighed. “I don't want to ruin your time...”

Dave smiled back. “I think you’re more important than a movie. I can see it with Niki and Az another time,” he shrugged.

Fio smiled and hugged him. “That’s really sweet of you. Thanks. We shouldn't leave Kurt and Mike though....”

Dave kissed her temple as they hugged. “I can’t imagine Lover Boy and Mike over there will care too much.” He joked with a glance at the two enthralled with the movie--well Mike was watching the movie, Kurt seemed more enthralled with Mike.

She laughed a little. “If you want to.” She offered softly. Was she really making the right choice? She glanced back over to Jason for a moment and then towards Dave. “We can leave or we can stay. I can be a big girl and watch it if you’d like.”

Dave rolled his eyes affectionately. “You are so indecisive,” he teased. “It’s entirely up to you, Fio. If you’re scared, we can leave.” He said firmly, grasping her hand again and grinning. “It’s all on you.”

Why did that phrase sound so much more like the whole situation in general? She was being indecisive. She thought that she had decided on Jason now and was going to stick to it. Dave being a sweetheart while Jason was irritated though made her waver. Maybe going outside was a good idea. Maybe it’d help her decide in the end. Finally with a nod she moved to stand. “Alright.”

Dave grinned, and without looking back, stood and followed Fio down the isle and out of the room; he blinked rapidly as they stepped into the bright lights of the hallway, fairly empty since most of the movies started at similar times. “I don’t blame you,” he said, “I was getting pretty freaked out.” And it’s the truth. “I jumped like crazy once.” He laughed.

Fio laughed a little and smiled up at him. “Thanks for coming out with me. I think Jase was irritated that I was making too much noise. I hate scary movies. They always freak me out to the point that I can’t sleep.”

David nodded down at her, returning the faint smile. “I know what you mean.” He dropped his voice to a whisper, like it was rather loud--a theater whisper, if you will. “When I was 8, my uncle made me watch Gremlins. I didn’t sleep for days.”

She laughed a little. “Gremlins was amusing though. I always wanted my own Gizmo.” She felt better talking to Dave. “I really sorry for dragging you out of the movie. Thanks for coming with me though.”

He shook his head. “I think it’s funny now, but when I was 8? Holy shit I was terrified.” Still, though, David laughed. “I don’t mind,” he replied honestly. “It’s just a movie, and I’m sure I can drag Niki to see it, if nothing else.” He shrugged. “Plus, we haven’t just talked for a while, me n’ you.”

“Yeah, not since....” Not since their fight two weeks before. She’d been mostly avoiding him and trying to decide what to do about her feelings for Jason. Kurt had told her that she needed to break up with Dave, but when he was sweet like this, she wavered.

“The fight.” He finished, with a solemn nod. “We still kind of need to talk, don’t we?” He brushed a stray hair of Fio’s face. “I do care about you, you know. No matter what.” He said, definitively with a nod.

Fio swallowed as she looked up at him. “I care about you too Dave...I just...” I have feelings for my best friend? Don't know if I really want to date you? “I don't know. I mean do you really like me that much?”

Dave opened his mouth, and somehow the worlds tried to come tumbling up his throat.

”I’m gay.”

But he doesn’t let them; he swallowed them down and blinked rapidly. “I do. I...” Well shit. “I love you, Fio.” Maybe, not really. I might actually be falling for one of your best friends but how the fuck do I tell you that?

...Wait what? Fio felt ready to panic. He just told her that he loved her. He loved her! Oh Shit! He loved her and she was falling for Jason. It was taking everything in her to not start hyperventilating and freak out at him.

Crap! He was staring at her and expecting her to speak and probably tell him that she loved him back, but she didn't. She loved the way he treated her and how wonderfully sweet he was, but she wanted it to be Jason who did all of that. She wanted him to hold her hand, to smile indulgently and tell her that it was going to be alright. Fio liked Dave, but she was falling in love with Jason. “No you don't...you cant.” She sputtered quickly and stared up at him.

Dave raises and eyebrow before breath stop short of his lungs. He can’t? Does she know? What does she mean, can’t. He was expecting timid denial, or maybe even a begrudging agreement. Not cant. He didn’t expect...he wasn’t ready for can’t. “What..?” He finally says.

“You can’t, Dave. No...I mean you shouldn't.” She was stuttering and just letting her mouth run through her nerves. “I mean I don't know if we’re meant to be. I think that maybe someone likes someone and it’s not part of this relationship!” Fio paced as she spoke before turning to face him on the last words.

Dave’s eyes widened considerably. She knew. She had to know. David, in a panic, was completely disregarding the thought of Jason even though he’d been at the forefront of Dave’s mind the entire time. “I...I...I don’t know what you mean.” He replied dimly.

Fio swallowed and ran a hand through her red hair and glanced up at him. This was getting them no where. “I don't think we should do this...” Do what, Fio wasn't so sure of anymore.

Dave tilted his head. “Do what?” He asked unwittingly. “Date? Or...break up? Or..” David stared down at his feet. What really came to mind was that maybe. Just maybe, they should stop lying to each other.

Fio sighed and moved to sit down on the floor and motioned for him to sit beside her as she tried to calm herself down and think about this. “Do you really love me?”

A little reluctantly, Dave followed her. He drew his knees up and rested his arm across them. “No.” He replied in a small voice. “Not...romantically.” David added.

Was it a terrible thing that she wanted to cuddle him at the sound of his voice. “Then why’d you say it?” Fio moved so she was leaning against the wall beside him.

Dave’s eyes flickered to her, before resuming their blank stare at the wall across from them. “... I’m scared.” He murmured. He looked over again, debating on whether or not bring up Jason. “I know you don’t...completely like me...like that.” David said quietly. “And that’s okay.”

“Why are you scared? Are you worried we might break up?” She really hoped that wasn't the reason he was so upset. Fio didn't want to hurt Dave, she really liked him and had hoped in some way she’d get to keep him as a friend. He gave the best cuddles.

Dave sighed. “We’re gonna break up. I think that’s...obvious.” He said, though his tone isn’t as sad as he was expecting. He stared into Fio’s eyes, debating internally. He knew she would be okay with it, aside from the whole “She was his beard” thing, and hell, they could probably be even better friends if she knew. “I haven’t been completely honest.” The words leave Dave’s mouth partially of his own accord, and partially not.

The first comment surprised Fio honestly. He went from say that he loved her to telling her that he knew they were going to break up. Then he said he hadn't been honest with her. That was even more confusing. Did he have another girlfriend somewhere? Her body was tense as she glanced up at him. “About what Dave?”

He looked past her, unable for a moment to meet her eyes. But, he decided, it was only fair. “I...you mean a lot to me, and I never meant to hurt you. I love being around you and I still want to hang out. I want to be friends, and I can’t lose that.” He distanced himself from her by the smallest bit. “I...” Now or never, Dave, spit it out. Stop being a coward.

His voice drops to a whisper. “I’m gay.” David looked down in shame.

Fio didn't mean to raise her eyebrow up or the look of shock of her face. “Am I just destined to go after every gay guy here?” She muttered to herself before really noticing just how upset he looked about saying it.

Immediately she moved closer to him and hugged him.”Oh Dave, you’re never gonna lose me as your friend because you like boys. If that were true, I’m a huge hypocrite for being friends with Kurt and Niki.” Fio knew Dave long enough that he wouldn't date her to hurt her. “How long did you know?”

David felt tears and wiped them away slowly. “I’ve kind of.. always known..” He sighed. “But then I met you and I actually felt like maybe I wasn’t...gay. Maybe I was just bisexual. Or confused.” He shook his head. “Niki has been so pissed lately. He was so disappointed.” Dave his his face in his hands. “I...Kurt kind of solidified the whole gay thing. For me.” He added in a tiny voice.

“You...like Kurt?” There was some part of her that felt irritated that her boyfriend... ex-boyfriend had a crush on her best friend. Fio shook that idea off and ran her hand over his back gently. “I guess if I were a guy going after a guy...” She’d go after Niki, but that was just personal tastes. “So you thought I could stop you being gay? I’m sorry that didn't work.”

“I’m so sorry.” Dave said before anything else. “I...not that you could stop me?” Well, okay yes. “But that...I liked you, I really did. You were easy to be around and it was genuinely.. kind of awesome.” He grinned. “But when I made myself sit down and think about it...it wasn’t romantic, the longer it went on.” David snickered. “Besides, I know you like Jason,” he said as he jerked his head towards the theater.

Fio was fairly sure that her current feelings for Jason had to be the worst kept secret around. Did everyone know before she did that she wanted the Asian as more than a friend? The fact that Dave knew made her embarrassed. He was right though. She loved hanging out with Dave and talking to him and honestly just being friends. She liked how sweet he was, but always kind of wanted it to be Jason who did it. “Is it really that obvious? I just figured it out.”

He laughed. “It’s pretty obvious, yeah. I don’t know what you see in him, though.” David shrugged. “Definitely not the kind of guy I’d see you liking.” He added, smirking.

“Why? Because he’s nothing like you?” She grinned at him before looking away and towards the wall. “I don't know...well I do. He’s Jason. On the outside he’s overly serious, slightly obnoxious and seems like he doesn’t care about anyone. Once you get to know him, he can be playful and teasing, he’s sweet in his own awkward way and he’s driven.” She smile on her face was smile and secretive, sometimes it felt like she was the only one who saw the real Jason.

David smiled, and rubbed her arm. “Then I’m happy for you.” He said. “At least you actually have a chance with Jason.” He smirked with a chuckle.

“What do you mean by that? I think you’d make Kurt one awesome boyfriend...though he’s gonna have to deal with your ex girlfriend still cuddling you.” She teased playfully.

David blushed vibrantly. “I am a pretty awesome boyfriend, aren’t I?” He teased back. “But...nah. I get the feeling I’m not his type.” He looked over to the theater. “What are we gonna do when Mike breaks it to Kurt that Mike isn’t gay?” He asked, struck by the thought.

“Well, we’ll hope that Mike does it gently, since Mike seems like a sweetheart. Then I will shove you into Kurt so you can hug him and then go make man babies.” She grinned and winked at him.

If his face was red before, Dave could only imagine how bad it must have turned. “Fio!” He snapped, his voice pitched and embarrassed. “I’m not...gonna hug him!” A pause. “Or make man babies, what the hell!?”

“You are going to hug him. Make man babies, probably not. But this’ll be perfect to introduce yourself as a romantic option. Kurt likes jocks. You actually probably have more luck with Kurt than me and Jason.”

Dave grasped her shoulder, a half smile half frown in place. “Look, Fio, I appreciate the help. But I’m not even out to anyone but you and Niki.” He looked around nervously. “I doubt Kurt wants to be with some scared, closeted jerk.” He spoke seriously, but the facade fell. “There will be no man babies made.” He said definitively.

“What is keeping them?” Kurt was trying to get his flirt on...the jumping, eeking and shock of the movie wasn’t exactly getting that done. Kurt didn’t usually startle easy, most times he was more distracted by the cinematography and lighting options and their choice of color themes in the costuming. Mike also didn’t seem to be prone toward grabbing onto him in the teen romance image. Oh well. The killer was caught, the terror over and still Fio and Dave were gone. “If they snuck off to make-out I’m going to be highly disappointed in Fiona. Jason. Did you hear why they left?”

Jason turned to Kurt, shrugging. “I might’ve suggested that she step out if the movie was bothering her. She was getting rather antsy.”

“Oh poor Fio.” Antsy...riiiight. “Oh well it’s over now. Let’s hope they’re not too ‘antsy’ to grab a bite to eat.” Yes he used air quotes, what? It was Kurt.

Fio heard the various people leaving the theater and saw her friends walking out and tugged on Kurt’s pants as they walked past, not really looking down. “Hey, down here.”

And despite not really being scared easily...he did just see a horror movie. And someone was suddenly unexpectedly touching him. He shrieked, a light pitched painful to even his own ears shriek. He jumped away from Fio’s sneaky little hand, colliding into the person next to him.

Jason felt the wind get knocked out of him. He pushed Kurt away with a frown. The other boy may be small but he definitely felt it when Kurt’s elbows dug into his ribs. “Watch it.”

“Sorry.” Kurt huffed as he was shoved away. Really why did Fio like him? “Fio how dare you!” He smoothed out his fringe of bangs, glaring over the railing at her. “You two missed the best parts.”

Dave grinned, a blush still burning into his cheeks. “Sorry, my bad. I kind of got us talking.” He admitted.

Fio looked over to Jason. “You alright?” She asked, a hint of concern in her voice. “Didn’t mean to scare Kurt into you.”

He brushed off his shirt and tugged at it. “I’m fine. Are you?”

Fio offered a small smile and a nod. “Sorry. I really don't like horror movies. I tend to scare myself all night with them and psych myself out.”

Kurt rolled his eyes. “Why yes Fio, the person you actually scared is just fine. My heart beat is going down from it’s cardiac arrest level into a more healthy rhythm. So glad for your concern.” He stormed down the stairwell to end up on the same elevation to Fio and Dave as only Kurt Hummel could.

Dave stood as Kurt walked--stormed, rather--down the stairs. “Are you okay?” He asked, despite he previous claim to Fio earlier that he would...well, that he wouldn’t hug Kurt, actually. But in his mind that had translated to ‘Not Flirt with Kurt At All.’

So much for that plan.

Fio rolled her eyes and sighed at him. There was no reason for him to be freaking out. “I’m sorry Kurt.” She turned back to Jason and Mike and offered a small smile. “So ice cream?”

“Ice cream! Yeah! Let’s go get some!” Mike nodded eagerly, hoping to ease the tension, or whatever it was that was happening. Man, this group? Certainly drama-filled. He didn’t expect it, totally.

Jason watched Mike, amused at the other boy’s reaction. He seemed very fond of ice cream. He walked past all of them, heading towards the ice cream parlor. He casually looked back at the group, eyebrow raised, “Well?”

Fio laughed and shook her head. “Lead the way Jason.” She moved to follow after him. “How was the movie? Did you like it?”

Dave purposefully distances himself, just the slightest bit, from Fio and Jason, and instead falls instep beside Kurt; he watches though, with a smirk.

“It was fine,” Jason replied as he walked alongside Fio. “You didn’t miss much.”

She shook her head. “I should’ve probably tried to get us to watch something else.” Fio glanced over to him and leaned close. “How’d the movie go for Kurt and Mike?” She asked, curious if there were problems or not.

“They were...” Jason trailed off, trying to think of a way to describe it. He was sure Kurt did everything in his power to flirt with Mike during the movie but the other boy wasn’t buying it. He wondered how long it would take for Kurt to give up this fool’s errand. “...fine. They were fine.”

Fio nodded a little. That’s good. Fine meant that there were no blow ups. Blow ups meant that Jason would be lecturing her right now on letting Kurt continue with his little crush. “Alright...” She was quiet as they walked for a few minutes, making sure that they were trailing in the black slightly. Finally she spoke. “I broke up with Dave....”

“You did? Why?”

“We decided we’re better as friends than as a couple.” Well that was one reason but the other two, him being gay and her being in love with the boy asking weren’t going to be spoken to Jason any time soon.

“I...see.” He didn’t know if he should say more. He opened the door and ushered her inside.

Kurt walked beside Dave, his heart still coming down from the little shock. He watched Jason and Fio, wondering how Fio ever fooled herself. “What were you two doing?”

David looked over at Kurt. “Talking.” He replied, letting a beat pass. “She’ll probably give you all the gritty details later, but we broke up.” Dave said calmly.

“Oh you were just....wait what? You broke up? Who dumped who? Why did it happen? Why are you telling me and not Fio? Is she heart broken? Are you heartbroken? Say something you’re killing me here.”

Dave’s lips tilted in a grin. “It was.. mutual.” He stared at Fio and Jason. “You know that she likes Jason, I know it. And.. There just wasn’t the right spark.” He smirked at Kurt. “I’m thinking they need a little push to get together. You interested in helping?”

“What do you think I’ve been doing for the last month? As much as I’m learning you’re a decent human being, you were not right for Fio to date. You colorings hardly compliment.” Kurt rolled his eyes. “He’s resistant however. He even screwed up a horse-drawn carriage ride. Who actually screws that up? It’s a romantic staple.”

Dave snickered. “Only you would think to break two people up because of their colorings.” David nudged Kurt’s arm playfully. “What if you found the man of your dreams and your colorings were.. like, complete shit or whatever? Would you dump him?” He asked, though what his mind wanders to is whether or not his and Kurt’s colors are compatible...

“If I found the man of my dreams.... Well obviously our marriage would have to have colors to compliment us both...” Kurt’s lips pressed together. “I’d make it work. IF he was the man of my dreams. Anything less then perfection is, of course, not worth the effort.” His pale alabaster skin tone left him surprisingly open for complementing skin tones of all kinds. Kurt wasn’t worried.

David grinned quirkily. “I bet you’ve been planning your wedding since you were like, six.” He said with a soft fondness--because on some level, so had David. The ceremony, at least. The guests. The music, for certain, Dave had had his heart set on for years.

“I...fine I have. I used to marry and divorce all of my power rangers. I’ve moved up from having a honeymoon at Chucky Cheese however. ” These days his honeymoon would be in Paris with a perfectly lit image of making love on a rooftop that overlooked the Champs-Élysées. “Jason and Fio’s coloring works rather beautifully.”

David laughed, loudly and richly. “I knew it.” He retorted. Dave followed Kurt’s gaze to Jason and Fio again--his sight having drifted to Kurt. “They do look pretty good together.” He agreed, smiling back at Kurt.

“They certainly do. I’m thinking a lavender and creme theme. The purples are most certainly Fio’s color and Jason could pull off the darker plum cummerbund.” Kurt grinned, leaning a bit toward Dave as they talked.

David nodded. “Fio looks amazing in purple.” He agreed again. Dave didn’t look away from Kurt, though he kept a cautious eye forward, looking out for any possible people, incoming. “What about me?” He asked. “Or Mike.” David looked over at their companion, who had been silent the entire exchange.

Mike felt someone’s eyes on him. Looking up from where he’d been staring at the floor (those tiles were mesmerizing), he saw Dave staring at him. He was confused. Was there something on his face? Or were they talking about him? He didn’t think they were otherwise his ninja senses would’ve have tingled or something. He waited, wondering if Dave would address him.

“Mike...hmmm.” Kurt inspected Mike for a moment, his first two fingers tapping on his lower lip. “He’d look mesmerizing in a pale grey suit. The accentation colors would be in the red spectrum perhaps... crimson?”

Dave looked around Kurt, and nodded minimally. “Yeah, I can see it.” He conceded. “You just know everything about that, don’t you?” He asked, not unkind.

“It’s my passion. I know just about everything I can about it. Fashion can change the world. In fact I’m thinking of encouraging the fashion club to do a theme of fashion for various body types to highlight the changes that need to be made in the industry.” He never got to talk this much about fashion! Most people just stared blankly or ignored him.

Dave, if he was being honest, didn’t understand too much of what Kurt was saying. Especially as he ot more excited and talked faster and faster. But he could tell it made Kurt happy, which made David happy to listen. “That sounds pretty cool,” he recognized the words “body type” which meant weight, which meant something Dave could relate to.

“It is! There's so many people who hate on the fashion industry because it presents an unrealistic body image. There have been models who died from malnutrition and anorexia to keep their jobs. There are now laws on the size of models. Clearly it needs to change. There’s been a wave of plus size modeling and desire to see more realistic body types.” Kurt beamed, his hands floating like birds through the air.

David grinned, both mesmerized by Kurt’s enthusiasm and simply stunning appearance, and because the topic was indeed something Dave appreciated. “Totally. I mean, skinny is great, but there definitely needs to be the message that being a heavier is okay to.” He gestured to his own body. “I mean, I’m not some hideous freak, or anything. And I’ll never be able to look like Hudson or Evans. And I think it’s important for people to know that they don’t hafta look like that.”

“Exactly. Just because you’re not tiny doesn’t mean you’re not healthy and beautiful.” Kurt smiled softly toward Dave. “I personally prefer men with larger body types.”

David blushed vibrantly; his eyes flickered to Mike. He searched for words, anything to say that wasn’t some sort of ecstatic squeal, a desperate, ill-timed confession, or something just completely incoherent. He settled for a strained, “cool.” With a nod.

The sudden change from excitement and interest to a single syllable word put Kurt on edge. What was that? He sighed, realizing his words might have sounded like he was coming on to Dave. This was why he didn’t like socializing with jocks, or really any boys. One off-hand comment and they assumed he was coming onto them and all the homophobia just jolted on out. “What do you think Mike?”

Once Mike realized that they weren't paying attention to him, he occupied himself with the tiles, ice cream and other things. He was, again, startled when he was brought back to the conversation. "What? Sorry? I wasn't really listening."

Kurt felt bad, Mike clearly was missing out on conversation. He decided to go ahead and switch to a broader subject. “How’ve classes been?”

“Classes are good. Except French. But that class is kinda hopeless anyway,” he replied. He didn’t know what brought this change in topic but it felt nice to be actually included for once. It made him feel not so much like a fifth wheel now.

“I adore my french class. The way the words sound... It’s the language of romance.” Kurt smiled, not quite overtly flirting.

“I think it’s hard.” Mike made a face at the thought of French. “But that’s okay. Tina’s helping me with it. And she’s awesome at it.”

Kurt’s eyes darted swiftly over the smile that Tina’s name brought to Mike. Oh no... “Tina? The pretty Asian girl who helped me with Single ladies?”

He nodded. “Yep. That Tina.”

Kurt tried not to hear the change in Mike’s tone. He was a straight boy wasn’t he? “Are you two close?” please say no please say no....

“Yeah!” Mike considered Tina as one of his closest friends, right up there along with Matt. But Matt was also his Big so he probably didn’t count. Then again, he kinda wanted more with Tina so friends might not be that accurate of a term. Whatever. Kurt didn’t need to know that though. “We’re close friends.”

“Oh.” Good friends.... Kurt wanted to kick at the ground, throw a fit and whine about how unfair of the world it was. “That's always important.”

Dave teared his gaze from Fio and Jason to Kurt and Mike, and frowned lightly. He knew it’d been coming, it’s not like Mike was gay or anything: he was just polite, and nice, charming. And Dave knew that Kurt had let silly emotions, an innate want had gotten the better of him.

Resisting the urge to rub Kurt’s shoulder, or even pull him into a hug, Dave continued to watch, also saddened by Kurt’s crestfallen gaze.

The ice cream shop was in front of them. Fio motioned for everyone to follow as she slipped into the door. “I love this place. They have the most amazing flavors. Mmmm. I can’t wait for the cake batter with bananas.” She licked her lips and glanced up to Jason. “What are you gonna get?”

Jason didn’t bother looking at the display. He knew what he was going to get. “Vanilla.”

Fio let out a soft sigh. That was it? “Just Vanilla? Nothing? no fruit? no caramel? no cake batter??”

“Yes. Just vanilla.” He liked his ice cream simple. Was that too difficult to comprehend?

Fio let out a small sigh. “Fine, but you’re stuck having a taste of mine to know what you’re missing...” She immediately moved up to the counter to order cake batter with bananas, caramel and coconut.

“Fine.” Jason replied, stepping in behind her and ordering his vanilla cone. He took out his wallet and paid for both their treats. He ushered Fio to the side and let the others order.

Fio was honestly surprised that Jason paid, but a small, giddy smile crossed her face. If she squinted one eye really hard and ignored reality, it could almost, in some way, maybe, if reality warped itself to her ideas, be a date. “Here, try some.” She took a bit on her spoon, making sure to grab some banana, and offer it to him.

He eyed the spoonful warily before taking the spoon and eating the ice cream. It didn’t taste that bad. He liked the banana. “It’s fine.” He went back to licking his cone.

Fio rolled her eyes and smiled. “How does yours taste?”

“It tastes like vanilla. And sugar.”

“.......” Leave it to Jason to be as literal as possible. She let out a sigh and shook her head. “Obviously Jay.”

“You asked a question and I answered.”

Kurt moved forward, looking over the variety of flavors. Mike’s interest in a female was putting him in the mood for chocolate. “German-chökolätekäke” He ordered, the chocolate ice cream, pecans, coconut, brownie, and Carmel decadence. “Small please.”

Dave stepped up after Kurt and scanned over the flavors quickly. He looked up with a grin. “Cappuccino, caramel, with bits of brownie please. In a bowl.” David requested. “Not a waffle one.” He added as an afterthought.

Kurt brought out his card for himself. “You’re a coffee fan too?” Cappuccino was his non-depressive ice cream choice.

David nodded casually. “Totally. It’s one of the only things my dad and I get along about. Sitting in the morning and drinking coffee.” He shrugged. “Plus, it just tastes fucking fantastic.”

“It does. I usually get mine with fudge and chocolate chips, I can’t help but destroy my diet over it.” Kurt glanced over to see the choice of Fio enter Jason’s mouth. “My my they work fast, I hope you’re alright with this.”

Dave hummed in agreement. “Chocolate and coffee is like, a gift from the gods.” He looked over as well. “Yeah, it doesn’t matter to me.” Dave’s face crinkles up in a grin. “As long as they’re happy, right?”

“So obviously you didn’t care for her much. At least not romantically correct?” He took the first bite of his chocolate. “It’s sad really. If one of my friends break up there should be at least enough obligatory drama I can bring Julia Roberts movies and chocolate to cheer Fio.”

David nodded. “Not romantically,” he affirmed. “But otherwise I care about her a lot. And I don’t want her really getting hurt. Our break up was.. bland. But She really liked Jason.” He takes a few slow bites of his ice cream, relishing the chewy bits of brownie.

“How completely boring.” Kurt’s voice whined a bit. “Really you both have no sense for the dramatic.”

David looked over with a smirk, and barely managed to keep himself from uttering, ”You have no idea, Kurt.”

“Sorry, we’re a calm kind of folk,” he teased.

Kurt rolled his eyes, glancing toward Mike. “Maybe that’s the better way to be. Instead of getting worked up to be disappointed.”

David, in much the same way, stared at Kurt while he was looking away. “I know what you mean.” He said softly.

Mike was busy alternating his gaze from the ice cream display and the menu board. He was trying to decide what to get. The thing with Cold Stone was there were so many choices, so many different combinations. He knew he was holding up the line though and he really needed to make a choice and fast! He stepped up to the counter and ordered his ice cream. He decided not to go with something custom. It would take a lot of time and there was a line of people behind him. “I’ll take The Pie Who Loved Me. And uh, size? Medium.” He stepped to the side to watch the guy prepare his ice cream.

Fio glanced over to him, feeling bad she hadn't tried to be more friendly lately and leaving it up to Kurt. “Oh, Mike. You were awesome last week at the game by the way. The way you danced was fantastic. I wish I could do what you did.”

“It was an awesome routine, wasn’t it? Me and Kurt had loads of fun thinking it up. Teaching it to the guys wasn’t as fun. No offense, Dave. But yeah. Awesome,” he grinned, lighting up at the mention of the football team’s routine. “You want me to teach you how to dance or something?”

“Really? That would be awesome! I sort of have two left feet.” Fio said, a little embarrassed, “I’ve only danced a few times and both of my partners were the only reason I was good. “ She pointed to both Kurt and Jason with a smile. “They could make anyone look good.”

“Oh, wow, no way?” He knew Kurt could dance. After all, they danced together at homecoming and they worked on the football team’s halftime thing. But Jason? Wasn’t he some sort of musical prodigy? And now he can dance? Wasn’t there anything he wasn’t good at?

“Yeah. The first time we actually met was at a party and we ended dancing. He’s really awesome and kind of commanding in his lead.” Fio smiled as she remembered their first meeting.

“That’s um...awesome.” Mike left it at that and stuffed his mouth with ice cream.

Fio rubbed the back of her head and gave an awkward smile. “Um, yeah...so yeah, I’d love to learn to dance if you’re willing to teach me.” Wow that came out awkward. Way to sound obvious with her crush. At least Jason was oblivious...hopefully.

Kurt raised a single eyebrow at Fio’s gushing over Jason’s dancing. He smirked then, turning to Dave. He needed to share the hilarity. Kurt bit his index knuckle with a look screaming high dramatics and swooning damsels, mocking Fio.

David snickered, his eyes flickering between Kurt and Fio. He covered his mouth in an attempt to stifle his laughter, but it barely succeeded. As it died down--very slowly--he grinned at Kurt. “Any more obvious and they might as well have a pair of flashing, neon signs between them.”

“He has such a strong lead,” Kurt imitated. “My word she might as well paint his initials right over her stomach.”

Dave’s face immediately turned red as he again tried to muffle his chortling. He ducked his head down, avoiding to look at Fio or Jason; subsequently, he looked at Kurt and laughed harder. “Stop,” he hissed, “you’re killing me!”

“Play it again. Your bowing is so masculine.” He imitated Fio’s adoration for Jason’s violin with huge batting of the eyes and a hand to his heart.

Dave actually snorted, unable to contain it any longer. “Kurt!” He snapped, hiding his face in a hand and chuckling into his ice cream. “Seriously, stop, please.” He wheezes dramatically.

Kurt loved a captive....and apparently dying audience. “Oh yes! Make me practice harder... longer!”

“What are you two talking about over there?” Fio glanced away from her conversation with Mike with a raised eyebrow.

Kurt went from mocking to complete innocence in 1.6 seconds flat. “We were discussing the training methods of Coach Beiste of course.” Kurt was an actor and knew how to improvise. All he needed now was Dave to catch on and not mess up the cover.

David gulped in air before somewhat regaining his calm and nodding. “Yeah, she’s got some crazy out there stuff.” He added, shrugging and taking a far too casual bite of his ice cream. Dave looked over and Kurt with a private, still very amused grin.

Fio raised an eyebrow and gave a small shrug. “Alright? Sounds like you two are having fun talking about it.” With a shake of her head, she turned to Mike again and smiled. “So, about those dance lessons?”

Mike was admittedly curious. What was Kurt yapping about that got Karofsky laughing like mad? He was sure it wasn’t about Coach Beiste. He didn’t think anyone would make fun of her. He shrugged and shoved another spoonful of ice cream in his mouth before turning his attention back to Fio. “Dancing lessons? Cool. I’m down with that. Not on Mondays though.” Monday was his and Tina’s day.

“Sure. Not on Wednesdays either. It’s when I have my flute lessons. How about Saturday mornings?” That was when Jason was in his own lessons and Kurt wasn't awake enough yet to go to the mall.

He thought about it for a second. He didn’t have anything planned for Saturday, well nothing apart from his usual exercise regime. “Yeah, Saturday’s good for me.”

“Alright, awesome.” Fio found herself excited at the idea of being able to dance. Admittedly, she wasn't very athletic and when she danced with Kurt or Jason, they had both been able to lead her fairly well. She wanted to be decent in her own right then.... maybe even impress someone. “This was a lot of fun tonight.” Despite having broken up with Dave, she did have a good time and felt better about everything in general.

“Yeah,” Dave agreed as he set down his bowl of ice cream. He looked at Kurt, smirking. “Definitely the most fun I’ve had in a while.” He said with a nod; David leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms across chest, smiling at his friends.

Jason had finished his cone and had gone to throw the wrapper away. He walked back to the group and asked, “should we get going...or?”
