Log: Fio/Artie

Who: Artie and Fio
When: Monday Morning before classes
Where: Thorne Hall
What: The last of the apologies

Fio sighed as she dipped past and around the students heading back to the dorms. She needed to get back to Thorne Hall before Artie did. Then she could wait and try to get him to talk to her. He was the last person that she felt that she needed to apologize and talk to, even if he wasn't directly involved. He was Rachel’s boyfriend and that probably put some strain on their relationship.

Dipping past the hall and around the corner. She arrived there just in time as she moved to wait off in one of the corners, grateful she hadn't seen any of the rest of her friends yet.

Leaving the dorm, Artie shivered slightly in the cool morning air. The days were still warm, but the nights were getting to be very cool and almost cold. Coming from Atlanta, this was a shocking change to Artie and one he was still getting used to. It would be cooling off at home as well, but not as quickly. Stopping his chair in the middle of the sidewalk, he adjusted the hoodie he wore under his blazer, zipping it up for warmth.

Fio saw him as he wheeled out into the morning air and gave a small smile. Good, he hadn't left already. Immediately, she hurried after him until she was beside him. “Um, hey Artie.... do you have a few minutes?” She asked, hoping he wouldn’t tell her to go jump off a cliff and leave.

Glancing up at Fio, Artie shrugged, noncommittally, “I guess...” he replied, his tone indicating that he didn’t really want to talk to her, but he wasn’t willing to be rude either. He wasn’t running late for classes yet anyways.

That tone of voice was something that she was getting really used to now. Fio wasn't going to let that deter her though. If Artie still didn't want to be friends after her apology, then she at least tried. “I just wanted to apologize to you, for what happened. I’m sorry you got involved in it at all.”

Nodding, Artie accepted it. “Everyone probably wants to know why you didn’t come forward faster and all that, right?” he asked. “And you didn’t because you were afraid. Except...how do you think Rachel felt? She was being falsely accused and punished, with the entire school, including the administration, against her. She’s a scholarship student like me, Fio. If you hadn’t come forward, they would have expelled her just to make a statement because something like that couldn’t go unpunished. Then what? She would have had an expulsion on her record when she tried to go to college and all that.”

“It would’ve never gotten that far. I wouldn’t have let it.” Fio added quickly. She wouldn’t have let it get there. “I... I didn't know what to do. The other girls who did it wouldn't say anything to me either, and I didn't want them to suddenly get in trouble because I wanted to come forward.” It sounded stupid now, but at the time it had been a big deal for Fio. She had thought they were her friends.

“Well...” Artie could sort of understand that. Not entirely, “but, see, they should get in trouble, Fio. They did something wrong.” There was protecting your friends and then there was hurting others. “Well...they got punished. Did you apologize to Rachel?”

“I know they deserved to get punished, we all did. That doesn’t mean it’s my right to be the one to tell on them. “ She sighed and kept pace with his chair. “Yes, I already spoke to her when she was ready to listen to my apology. She was never meant to get involved with this. Hell, most of what happened wasn’t supposed to.” It was just supposed to be a harmless prank.

“Someone had to stand up and do what was right. If not you then...who?” Artie asked. “I’m glad you did though.”

Fio nodded a little at his comment. In the end, the other girls came forward at least too, “Well I’m still sorry that your girlfriend got involved with the whole situation too and I wanted to apologize to you for it. I really liked hanging out with you and I don't want to lose our friendship over it... I mean if you’d still like to be my friend.”

“Yeah, sure,” Artie agreed. He could hold a grudge when he wanted, but at the same time, Fio had apologized and all that too. That went a long way. “If Rachel accepted your apology, then sure,” he added. He didn’t think Rachel and Fio were friends, but that was okay. He could be friends with Fio without Rachel.

Fio smiled and leaned down to hug him. “Thanks... It means a lot to me. Hey, maybe we can hang out and play video games again? I can show you a few other characters of Super Smash Brothers.” It felt good that she could stay friends with Artie. Fio had decided that he was a friend worth having when she reassessed the people she was friends with after the whole thing.

“That sounds good,” Artie agreed, looking around at the trees, their leaves were turning brilliant colors. “I need to get to class now,” and he was cold.

“Alright, I’ll see you later then.... Thanks again Artie.” She smiled and nodded her head to him before turning to head back towards her own classes. Finally it was over. All of her apologies were done and those who she had hoped to stay friends with had accepted her apologies. Now Fio could finally get on with life and put this whole stupid prank thing behind her. It looked like this week was going to be awesome.
