Who: Niki and Fio
When: Sunday afternoon
Where: Athletics Field
What: Appologies

The punishment from the school was over, but that was only the beginning of putting this whole stupid thing behind her. Now came trying to talk to those people who had either gotten hurt or involved in this whole situation. She had tried to apologize to both Quinn and Santana, but well that didn't go so well. Next came Rachel, but she didn't want to hear it. Artie wasn't a good idea until Fio talked to Rachel. So that left the next one on her list, Niki.

Jason had been right before, Fio needed to make her choices for friends better. She had made the wrong choice once, but she would not do it again. Niki had been really nice to her, and Fio had hoped that they would be friends. He probably wouldn't want to anymore though. Fio had to try though, she wanted to try at least once. So, with a bag of decorative soap she had bought online, Fio went looking for Niki.

It was a gorgeous day and Niki was out side enjoying it. He had been playing his guitar a little, but had set it aside to join in an impromptu game of touch football with a group of students. Some were on the football team, some weren’t. Now, shirt off and sweaty, his hair loosely tied back with a hair band, Niki made his way back to his guitar to go and lay out on the grass. It was a good, happy day and he did not want to think about homework and all he had to do.

Fio had spent some time trying to look for him. Kurt hadn't known where he was since he wasnt in the dorms. and she didn't really want to go out around most of the students. There had been a lot of threats against the people who had played the prank and she wasnt sure how many would actually try to go through with it.

It had been an hour of wandering around campus until she saw the tell tale sign of Niki’s long red hair and swallowed. At least he was mostly alone. Fio closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to psych herself up before walking towards him.

Hearing feet on the grass, Niki slowly opened his eyes, “Yes?” he asked slowly staring up at Fio as he tensed a little. He hadn’t spoken to the girl since he had found out her role in the prank pulled against Quinn and Santana. He had considered her a new friend prior to that though. Now...he was less sure.

Dont shake. She tried to tell herself, but it was hard not to. Though in the little time she had known Niki he had been very sweet, he had also been one of the first people to threaten those who had played the prank. Honestly she just wanted to run away, but that wasn’t the right thing to do and if she wanted this friendship, she had to work for it. Fio forced the hand holding the bag to stop trembling as she got closer. “Um.... hi....”

“Howdy,” he answered, not moving. This was not a meeting between friends and while she apparently decided to take the initiative to begin it, he was going to control it now. And that meant that he did not sit up or move in any way. It was all a power play for the moment.

“I..... I was wondering if we could talk. If you don't, just tell me ok?” Don’t shake, Don’t cry Fio reminded herself as she stopped there before him.

“You’re talking,” Niki pointed out. He didn’t tell her to stop though or to go away. He just waited.

“Yeah....” What did she expect, him to offer a smile of reassurance? None of those here. “Look, I just wanted to apologize for what happened. I... I never mean for this to go so far. Hell, it was just supposed to me a prank on another set of girls that went way too far and got out of hand.” She swallowed down the thick feeling in her throat and took another deep breath.

“But these weren’t any other set of girls,” Niki replied softly, “These were Roses. And I don’t care how much they deserved it or how harmless it was supposed to be, you hurt them. And those girls, they’re my sisters. Blood don’t matter.” Truthfully, had it been a harmless prank, he would have let it go, no problem. He would have laughed. “You don’t hurt my family.”

“That’s great! So being part of a club makes it a sin to play a prank? I’m glad to be reminded that . I didn't do anything to them but steal some underwear and throw it up a tree. I didn't know that there were drugs involved and if I had, would have told the school before it happened.” The tears were fighting to come up. Of course it was back to being Roses and Thornes being better.

It wasn’t that they were better. It was that they were a united front, period. They could squabble amongst themselves all they wanted, but they presented a united front to all others. “That’s not what I said,” it was tough to keep the sharp note out of his voice, “A prank is supposed to be funny. Not hurt them. And you might not’ve known about the drugs, but that don’t make you any less culpable for the rest. You just don’t get expelled,” the rest being not speaking up sooner.

“Yeah, and I’m trying to make my recompense. I apologized to the people who were hurt and I’ve been trying to make it right. I went and apologized to Quinn and Santana first. They’re the ones who have a right to be mad at me. I apologized to Rachel too, but I wasn't the one who accused her. I tried to talk to the other girls after it happened to get them to confess with me. “ She had tried to confess herself, but she had been terrified. All those threats seemed so serious when they had gone up.

“Good,” Now Niki sat up and faced Fio. That was better. “I’m not mad, Fio,” he finally said, “I’m disappointed. You should have come forward. It was the right thing to do. And don’t tell me that it was difficult or scary, because the things that are the most important are never easy. If they were, then everyone would do them.”

“That’s easy for you to say. It’s fine and great to be disappointed in me. I know what I did was wrong when I didn't come forward sooner, but don't tell me that fear isn't a reason. It was terrifying to come forward but I did. You and at least two other boys from the Thornes threatened physical violence in the forums, and a lot of the other students were all acting the same way.” Fio sighed and looked away from Niki. He probably just took it as excuses, and maybe to him they just were.

“Yeah, I did,” Niki agreed evenly, he wasn’t going to deny or try to explain it away. “So what?” He regarded her seriously for a moment, “What you did upset a lot of people, you cannot expect them to not have some sort of gut reaction, whether they ultimately act on it or not. You cannot control what other people do. You can control yourself though. And going privately and quietly to Dean Schuester to turn yourself in was the right thing to do. At that point, it is the school’s job to protect you or if you don’t feel safe, to do something about that. Dragging it out like it was and letting someone else take the blame even if she was eventually cleared was chicken shit.”

She closed her eyes and sighed. “Yeah, well I didn't think of that. It scared me and I didn't know what to do. I did try to talk to the other girls first too, but you’re right. I should have gone sooner. “ He was right, and maybe there were a million ways Fio should’ve done it. Fio had never thought of those though. She had thought of the people she thought of as friends, or her own fears. She didn't even think that the school would keep the bullying back, honestly she still didn't either.

Unding the hair tie in his hair and running his fingers through the tangled locks, Niki thought for a moment. “Best learn from all this then,” he stated, which was his acceptance of her apology as well. He knew she had, too. “You got real lucky too.”

Her body stance relaxed a little and she finally gave a small smile. “Really? I think unlucky would be the better answer. I learned the importance of choosing my friends better. I almost lost the most important ones I made so far. I mean I don't want to loose the friendship we were building and Jason.... is Jason and had me crying on him, so he got stuck still being my friend by default.” Fio smiled fondly at how nice, for Jason, he had been to her through all of this.

Jason? Offering comfort? That actually boggled Niki’s mind. Jason was a nice guy and all that, but...he was not the comforting type. Niki sometimes wondered if he had emotions outside of music. He was definitely not a bad guy though or a jerk. At least he could trust that Jason wouldn’t screw Fio over and whatnot. “That sounds like it worked out well enough then,” he finally replied. “But yes. Choose your friends wisely. There’re lots of cliche’s about that.”

“ I don't know if Jason would say it worked out as well, but yeah it did,” a soft giggle bubbled forth at his comment. “I guess there’s a good reason for so many cliches about it. Oh!” Fio looked down towards her bag and then walked over to offer it to him. “I know they’re not the ones from that one store, but I thought it might make a nice gesture. Jason got me agreeing to play music with him, and Kurt still has me as his own personal life sized Barbie. I thought I should at least not come empty handed when I tried to apologize.” She offered him the small blue gift bag. Inside where four soaps carved to look like roses, one for each color of the houses. “I couldn't find anything that had Thornes on it.”

Rose soap? Okay, so he was a little soap obsessed, but rose soap? He had to give her props though for choosing the four colours of the rose houses. Taking them out and smelling them, he smiled up at her. It was a nice gesture, though the soaps also smelled like roses. He wasn’t much a flower sort of guy. “Thank you,” he said, meaning it. It was clear that thought went into the peace offering. “I appreciate it. If you’d found thorny soap, I’d’ve been impressed. Ain’t never thought to look for any.”

“I spent the better part of my imprisonment in my room looking for some online. There was absolutely nothing. Though I was tempted to see if I could make it myself, but that involved a burner to melt the soap and I didn't need to get in trouble for that with the school now.” Fio laughed and stepped towards him again, wanting to hug him, but not sure if she was allowed to.

Relenting, Niki gestured so that she would sit down with him. He wasn’t interested in getting up yet, “I am sure you could talk to the science teacher or something,” he pointed out, but he did see her point. Getting in trouble again would be a bad idea. “If it was that important.”

Fio sat down immediately, already feeling better about everything. “I doubt the science teachers would think soap making was an appropriate use of the lab materials.” She giggled. “Plus I’d probably need help, and I can’t imagine Jason willing to help me, or Kurt.”

“Well, I’ve got no idea how to make it,” Niki replied, “but, it can’t be all that hard. I mean, they make it by hand at that store I like. All you need is a book and a place to do it. Hell, I think one of my grandmother made soap or something. That old farmhouse has all sorts of stuff there still.”

“Really? That would be pretty fun actually. We should totally make some sometime. I could make it as a gift for someone.” Fio was thinking about Dave. She could totally make a gift for him, it wouldn’t be too crazy, right?

“If we can, we will,” Niki agreed. It would be cool to make soap and see how it was done. “And sure. Give it as Christmas gifts probably, since I think it tends to make a lot at once.” At least, it seemed to when he went to the store and it had 5lbs blocks. Sometimes they were even larger.

“Alright, so soap making it is.” Now they just needed to figure out how to make it and to make it look pretty at the same time. At least it was going to be fun. Fio looked over to him for a moment as her frown dropped a little. “Are we friends again Niki?”

“We were never not friends, Fio,” Niki replied. Girls. “I was just mad. There’s a difference. Being mad don’t make us not friends.”

“I thought.... I mean I could understand if you didn't want to be....” Truthfully it had been one of the things that had hurt the most when she thought that she had lost his friendship. “I’ve kind of been expecting it with all of my friends. I still have to try to apologize to another friend. That one’s not going to be anywhere near as easy...” That was Artie and he was going to be the hardest honestly.

“Then they ain’t much of a friend,” Niki replied firmly. “When the going gets tough...yeah, it might not be easy and all that, but if the friendship is worth having, then you fight for it and don’t get up. You gotta fight for what’s important to you and what you believe in, ‘cause if you don’t someone is gonna take it and you’re gonna be miserable and then what?”

Fiona looked up at him. He said that with such conviction. It was different from what her own family thought. If the going got tough, find something else to go at. It had been the reason she had given up the flute and just let herself fall into the background after she didn't make it into the Roses last year. She didn't want to be like that anymore though. She wanted to have friends and she was willing to work for them. Fio leaned over and hugged him. “You’re right....”

Wrapping an arm around her, Niki smelled like stinky boy, “Of course I am. I know it all. And what I don’t know, I make up to sound convincing,” he grinned, joking, “But one thing I do know, no bullshit, is that ain’t no one gonna work for something if you don’t. You want it? You gotta take it. And ain’t nothing worth doing that’s easy.”

Fio wrinkled her nose at the scent of him but held the hug a moment longer. “Alright no more bull shit! I’m going to take the bull by the horns. I’m going to get my friends back, get a boyfriend and do well!”

“Exactly!” Niki agreed. “How’s that boyfriend thing going anyways?”

“Better! There’s a guy who’s not gay first of all.” She grinned playfully at Niki. “I met a guy named Dave on Friday... It was actually pretty awesome... he actually talked about you so you probably know him. ”

“Dave....?” Niki asked, curious. There was more than one Dave on campus, and two in his house alone. That was why they went by their last names, “Which one?”

“He’s a Thorne on football. He’s talked about you a little. He’s like, twice height almost. “ Fio blushed and rubbed the back of her head. “I don’t actually know his last name, but he has this really sweet smile too.” She blushed and looked down, feeling shy about the whole thing.

A Thorne and on the football team? There was only one then, “Dave Azimio,” Niki stated. Huh. He hadn’t thought that Fio would be into a guy like Azimio. “He’s my little.”

“He is? But I thought you were a senior....” That was confusing. Dave had said he was in the same grade as her. Was there another Dave around? “Is there more than one Dave in the Thornes?”

“I am,” Niki agreed, “There are two,” he said, slowly realizing that she wasn’t talking about Azimio. “Dave Azimio is my little and Dave Karofsky is his little...” he trailed off. There was no way it was Karofsky. No. Way. “Karofsky is a sophomore too.”

“Then it’s probably that Dave. He said he was a sophomore. He’s huge, but in a really cute way. Oh, he has really short brown hair and the prettiest hazel eyes.” It was obvious she was smitten with the boy.

Dave Karofsky had a girl he was interested in? Really? Well. Niki tried not to fall over laughing. That wouldn’t be nice to Fio. She was clearly interested in him, “So you two kids gonna go on a date or something soon?”

She giggled and nodded. “Yeah, it’s my first date. I’m excited about it. I already got the perfect dress for it when I went out with Kurt and Jason on Friday. I really hope it works out. He’s really cute, and sweet. Though he scared me after first. We accidentally crashed into each other while I was trying to get across campus.”

“That could be painful,” Niki acknowledged. Dave was built something like a brick with legs and arms. It was a good body type to have for football. “I...hope it goes well for you then,” but he was going to have words with his little. Definitely.
