your take on fury and the council is fabulous. (hee! cowboy mentions. oh, does fury know his people or what!)

The whole cowboy comment comes as much from a meeting we had a work where my manager was bitching about the "cowboys" in the chain of command who would decide on some bright new "idea" about how to run things and then change it without thinking things through or knowing how that would totally fuck the rest of our processes up. (It certainly doesn't hurt that there are so many Cowboy!Clint feels running around, either! :) )

and these freaking arrogant council people thinking they can control things and NOT get their hands dirty. that they can sin without impunity! rawr! i hate them. but they really are the lesser of two evils. and maybe they were founded on noble intentions (howard stark!!! *shakes fist*) but how quickly those intentions get lost or crushed by politics and pride. oh, all these wider feels brought on by competent story telling and plot! I LOVE THIS ORIGIN STORY!:D ( ... )

Because the first several times she offers (here, and again, periodically once they're with SHIELD) she's trying to take control. It's because that is how she's learned she can best control men (in general), it's one of her primary subtle skills (because obviously if she wants to stay with SHIELD and wants trust and cooperation, she can't very well beat the crap out of him, that's not going to work) - and my Natasha doesn't have a problem with using sex to achieve her goals. She likes sex just fine. (The man that she kills at the beginning of the story is someone she chooses both because she thought he'd be fun to have sex with and she might be able to get useful information out of him.) So she approaches Clint, because their relationship does have her off balance, and tries to seduce him and he keeps turning her down (which also, understandably, pokes at her ego a bit, too). So, once it moves from "I'm doing this because I'm trying ( ... )
