LORDS OF KOBOL LET ME LOVE YOU! COMPETENT SUPER SEXY SPIES THAT DEFY ALL EXPECTATION OF ONE ANOTHER AND HAVE COMPLETELY HONEST AND COLLECTED DOUBLE TALK! and gah, best of all, like recognising like in that brief moment of defeat. he's been there. he knows what that looks and FEELS like and he read that in an instant. MY GOD HIS CLINT IS A GORGEOUSLY COMPETENT SKILLED MAN OF INTRIGUE!

Re: "Lords of Kobol" = You will all the internets. :D

Re: Assassins... yes. Yes, absolutely yes - competency = sexy and I will maintain to my dying day that he is/does this. She just would not put up with anything less from a partner. (And in my headcanon, they've actually been partners a ridiculously long time (around 12-15 years... my Natasha is enhanced, not to Steve's level, but some, and it mucks with her aging a bit).) She's used to working alone, prefers it, and her impatience with people who can't keep up with her or don't trust her instincts MAKE HER CRAZY. (This is a major point in the next part of the story, actually.)

rawr, stupid phone and delayed thought(s)! PLUS! one of the things i loved the most about the movie was 'agent barton was sent to kill me. he made a different call.' because my first reaction to that was: ho.leez shit! he got the drop on her and it completely threw her off balance and what was that loss of composure like for her?! the master of subverting expectation has been subverted! where is that story?!' oh hey look, i found it.

::blush:: Thank you!!! That little point became my obsession, too. How did he do it? Why did he do it? and etc. I think there used to be more in this section where she's talking about feeling for a minute that if he'd managed to track her, to get the drop on her, and get a shot, then maybe it was destiny and he'd earned the right to kill her? But it was more talk-y than she would be at that point, and I also had to go back and rearrange things when I realized she'd set her sights on SHIELD herself.
