Ah, I have a question, if anyone here would be so kind as to humor me? If not, please just pardon the intrusion!

Have you ever heard of, uh-- [he hesitates noticeably, here, obviously just a little uncomfortable with his own words. And why not? He'd likely be writing his own bad press in his reality.] --'vampires ( Read more... )

All right. Then, if you don't mind--how well acquainted are you with them?

[... Griiiin] Went out on a date with one.

Erm. ... Uh! Well, then you don't think they're strange? That's actually a relief. Methuselah are as common as humans where I'm from, but I haven't seen a single one, so far.

I've heard of them, but they're only legends where I come from. But after what I've seen here about things staying hidden from the general populace, I wouldn't be too surprised if they turned out to exist after all.

If they did exist in my world, I pity any t hat try to bite me without permission.

Much of what we believe about them came from legends in my version of Template, too, but they're really just people. Like us!

Well, uh, you shouldn't be so quick to assume that they would. Not all humans are kind, either.

I guess you're right. Our legends don't paint a flattering picture, but I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt? That is, if they exist at all on my homeworld.

To be honest, neither do ours. It's hard to know what's truth and what's been, eh--for lack of a better word, embellished. Giving that benefit to a stranger can be a risk, but I still believe it's worth it.

Yeah, I've heard of them. Never had a big interest in them or anything, but I know what they are.

All right. And you've only ever heard them called vampires, before?

impropertalk May 9 2008, 16:53:57 UTC
There was those other things.. What were they called? Dhampir? Something like that. But I don't think they were exactly the same thing, so I guess my answer's yes.

awful_awkward May 9 2008, 17:31:14 UTC
Eh, I'm afraid I don't know what a dhampir is at all. But thank you, anyway! I suppose my world really is in the minority, though. How odd.

What's a vampire?

Reply

awful_awkward May 9 2008, 16:00:16 UTC
Uh, well, it's a person who must sustain themselves on human blood.

I've never heard of that before. I don't think my home has 'vampires'.

Reply

awful_awkward May 9 2008, 17:26:25 UTC
Perhaps that's even more unusual. You do sort of look like a Methuselah, yourself!

Vampires exist but they're close to extinction. What about them?

Reply

awful_awkward May 9 2008, 16:02:51 UTC
Extinction? My goodness. Where I'm from, that isn't quite the case. It just struck me, how different these other Templates must be. I wanted to investigate.

It is not another 'Template,' it is my world. The situation for vampires in your world may be different.

Pardon me, then. It was just a slip; I must not be thinking straight! It's quite different, yes, but what worries me most is that they seem to be, uh, entirely nonexistent, here.
