Best idea I've heard in a long time

Or in this case, read:

"Andy Hargadon, head of the entrepreneurship center at the University of California-Davis, says that for many people 'twenty years of experience' is really one year of experience twenty times."

(From The Startup of You, page 22, by Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha)

I'm usually not into these types of books, but Reid Hoffman came to my company (Mozilla) to speak about his book (FWIW he's on the Mozilla Board of Directors).

I know a few people for whom this is true - they do the same things, over and over, and look to new career opportunities as exciting challenges, when really they do the same old same old and are bored.

So, having posted very little for so long, I hope this gives you food for thought. I have over 10 years' experience, but I'd say I really have 5-7 years' experience in my career, with several repeated years.

In my marriage of 5 years, I'd say I definitely have 5 years' experience.

In my friendships, I probably have 1-2 years' experience, over and over.

What about you?
