Once people started to disperse and Peter had thoroughly mingled with Darvish, he glanced around and made his way over to Z'lan. Might as well meet the guy in charge, right?
"Hi. Um, I'm Peter. I don't think we've formerly met but I've seen you around a lot." The Empath extended his hand to Z'lan, clearly nervous. He was never very confident around authority figures and Peter blamed his brother for that.
He smiled gently and nodded his head as they shook hands. "Well met to you too. I don't want to sound like a kid or anything but this stuff is pretty overwhelming. Are you sure I'm supposed to be here...?"
"Dragons, especially blues and greens, make excellent Search dragons. They sense in you the potential to be a dragonrider." He reached behind him and patted Evreth's shoulder. He knew it would be there. "You were Searched, you belong here."
Peter suddenly felt very...important. And confident. And with that, a bit more brave, too. His smile widened and he peeked around Z'lan to look at Evreth. "Cool. I'm excited. I mean, more so than I was before. I didn't know what to expect but this sounds really...hm. Fulfilling is a good word, I think. I've always wanted a purpose."
"Aye, being a dragonrider will give you that. For now, you're just a candidate and as long as you do your chores we don't expect much more." Things would change if he Impressed, but this wasn't the time for that.
"Does it help my chances if I'm like...the best person ever at chores?" he asked playfully, though it was a good question in his mind! When Peter dedicated himself to something, he always came out on top. Soccer was a good example of that.
"No, but it will endear you to the lower caverns, might even get you an extra sweet roll." Z'lan was amused by the question. The strangers had such weird ideas on things.
"Oh man, really?" he asked, eyes going wide. Those sweet rolls were some of the best tasting things he'd had here. "Sounds like I've got a new plan." Peter chuckled and tucked his bang behind his ear.
Z'lan turned and pointed above their heads. "See those? Those are the dragon weyrs. They sleep in there and there's a room that connects for the dragonrider. The same is for the weyrling barracks."
Peter turned and looked up, his brows rising. "Woah. That's really cool...do the dragons ever attack their dragonriders? I mean, what if one of them thinks it likes me and then later on decides I'd make a delicious snack?"
"Oh..." Well that was a relief! He rubbed one of his arms. "Sorry, just a little scary to have to deal with dragons when we don't have anything like that where I come from."
"Hi. Um, I'm Peter. I don't think we've formerly met but I've seen you around a lot." The Empath extended his hand to Z'lan, clearly nervous. He was never very confident around authority figures and Peter blamed his brother for that.
