yeah... uhhh. nothing much to write about.
i did a study on wireless networks that i picked up from downtown madison to my house. if you're interested it's behind the cut.
From downtown Madison to my house, I was able to pick up 708 wireless networks. Of the 708, the following was true.
- 343 out of 708, or roughly 48% of the wireless networks were unsecured, meaning that they were configured for open access and were able to be logged onto without any sort of password.
- 365 out of 708, or roughly 52% of the wireless networks were secured, meaning that they were configured for closes access and were unable to be logged onto without a password.
- 29 out of 708, or roughly 4% of the wireless networks surveyed had default SSIDs, meaning that the network was named by the company the user bought the device from.
- 59 of the 708, or roughly 8% of the wireless networks surveyed were manufactured by 2Wire, meaning that the user has AT&T Yahoo! DSL.
- 37 of the 708 were City of Madison provided Wireless Internet, which comes to the user at a cost, however, it is configured for open access and you may see their sample sites, however, you may NOT browse like you usually can.
