Ariel was heading back to her room, sending a "Hi, Ellie!" through the open door in passing, but then she bounced back and popped her head in a little.

"You have a cupcake," she observed. "Is that a celebratory cupcake, or just a I got a cupcake because they're delicious cupcake?"

"Hey Ariel," Ellie said with a wave. "I guess both. Cupcakes should be bought every now and then just because they are delicious. But this one is a little celebratory, too. It's my birthday."

"It is?" asked Ariel, instantly gaining a grin. "Well, happy birthday, then! That's a great reason for cupcakes."

Although she couldn't help wondering what it was with the Bartowski family and having birthday cake by themselves.

"How old are you?"

"Thanks. I'm eighteen now," Ellie answered. "You know, I've got some leftover cake the chef at the hotel made for me if you want any."

"Oh, no," Ariel laughed, waving a hand, "that's okay, I'm good. It's your cake, you should enjoy it! You and Chuck've got birthdays fairly close, it feels like we just celebrated his!"

"Yeah, fall was always fun in the Bartowski home." At least for a little while. "And then that was followed by Thanksgiving."

"Thanksgiving?"

Sure, she knew what the word meant, but Ariel was pretty sure there was a capital letter on that.

"Oh, it's a holiday when everyone gets together for a big feast to celebrate all we're thankful for. American Thanksgiving is in November," Ellie explained. "Pretty sure Canadian Thanksgiving is this Monday."

"Why do they celebrate it on different days?" Ariel asked, head tilting. "Although, I suppose that means you get two chances to celebrate, and that's not too bad."

"More reasons to celebrate are definitely not bad," Ellie agreed. "I think both have some different traditions and origins."
