«Story

Created as a reboot of the Casshern franchise, Casshern Sins tells the story of a world where robots subjugated humanity after becoming self-aware. Their leader, Braiking Boss, ruled over the world with an iron fist. One day, a mysterious girl named Luna is summoned by the people, in order to bring the salvation of mankind. Fearing her as a potential threat, Braiking sent three of his most powerful cyborg warriors to dispose of Luna: Casshern, Dio and Leda. Casshern, the strongest warrior, manages to track down and kill Luna. However, this triggers a cataclysmic event which sets into motion the end of the world. Hundreds of years later, the world's atmosphere is filled with poison, and, due to the inability of most remaining humans to reproduce, as well as the constant threat posed by the robots, humanity is on the brink of extinction.[4]

Robots fare little better, fearing death as much as humans do: the poisonous environment quickly causes their mechanical bodies to rust and corrode, forcing them to constantly replace their damaged parts, if spare parts in good condition can even be found. In this wretched time and place, Casshern, who had disappeared following the assassination of Luna, returns with no memory of who he is or what he had done. As he embarks on a journey to find out the truth about himself, Casshern will discover his true purpose and destiny.[4]»

A robot built identical to Casshern, he, along with Casshern and Leda, were sent to kill Luna, but Dio failed to reach her before Casshern. He plots to halt the ruination by exposing Casshern's secret and rule the world, taking the place of Braiking Boss. As such, he attempts to organize a robot army. He holds animosity towards Casshern, as they were both created with identical specifications, but Casshern was slightly ahead of him in reaching Luna. (...)»

Personality:
Dio first appears in the series as a collected, mysterious and calculative antagonist. He claims to know everything about Casshern, the amnesiac wonderer with a brutal past, and exercises his thirst for revenge through an attempt to defeat him. It soon becomes clear that Dio is obsessive, violent and will stop at nothing to reach his goal: to destroy Casshern and become the most powerful being in existence. It's implied that he also seeks immortality and the desire to lead an army of robots, but those are only ambitions placed on his shoulders to fulfill his ally (Leda)'s agenda.

Given the same physique and abilities as Casshern, Dio states that he has always been the second best, especially since the chase to assassinate Luna ended by Casshern's hands. Dio was only seconds behind him and has been living in his shadow ever since. He abhors any similarities the two might share. He's seen changing from a confident victor into a crazed annihilator when a fallen enemy mistakes him for the other cyborg, only brought back to reason when Leda stops him.

Dio's ability to completely lock on a target works against him more often than not. As persistent as it may make him, he fails to consider other factors that might come into play. He is often defeated because he fails to see a third party come into play and/or because he rarely considers traps and ambushes a reality. It's rare of him to become sidetracked from his obsession, blinded by his frustrations. He cares little about becoming the next leader of the robots. He cares even less about their opinions and desires; all that matters is what he's after. Dio only finds satisfaction when events bring him closer to destroying Casshern.

IN NON CASSHERN RELATED MATTERS, Dio has little patience to socialize, is arrogant, blunt and naturally inclined to use force in order to get his way. He often conceals his ire and presents a cold and intimidating attitude before turning to more physical solutions. Despite these factors, he is also seen breaking down, not understanding why it's so difficult to achieve his goals. He eventually comes to realize that there are different means to an end, BUT THAT IS FURTHER AHEAD INTO THE SERIES. The only characters that get actual dialog from him are Leda and Casshern, for very different reasons. WILL SPLENDOR GIVE HIM MORE FRIENDS? No he'll probably just want to hit everyone.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Enhanced physical abilities (speed, endurance, stronger and heavier than your average, etc) ; super special awesome fighting skills. Given the effects of the Ruin's, Dio may be held back and easier to damage (by an equally strong opponent) due to his increasing deterioration.
Possessions: He don't need no possessions.
Anything else: He's an obsessive and violent character and will most definitely attempt to take advantage of Splendor's wish granting goodness. He will also try to smash a lot of things and people, so. SNAP
