This was written with season one Sam in mind.
Though with the word 'gone', it fits season two ok.

Blame the Rain, Because the Sun is Always There
By Shadopath

Sam gazed out the Impala’s window. It seemed to rain a lot in their world.

The rain comes down on beating hooves

At times it brought to mind a verse Sam read once. Simple, kind of lame really.

Shrill scream echoes the lightning

Though the rain now was gentle, not a raging storm.

Flowing mane is the wind

And honestly, he wasn’t attached to horses. No more than any other animal.

It vanishes with the Sun, free and led by no one

If he let himself think about it, he knew why that little poem resonated with him as a teenager. Why he still remembers it today.

Their father was gone. He wasn’t leading them any more but this life was. Sam and his brother were tied to the same purpose by fate and duty, by vengeance and loyalty. Beyond this destiny’s grasp, they were bound together by love. Sam knew Dean was the one tether holding him here. The one tie he would never want to break free of, with the coming of the Sun.

“I’m tired of the fucking rain.”

Dean knew he’d left Sam with his thoughts too long. “Yeah, me too. Hey, maybe we should head to South Cali after this?”

“It rains there too.”

“But it rains on bikini clad women.”

Sam gave his brother a long-suffering look, and then broke into a smile. Really, the Sun had never left his side.

End
