Finnish ESC 2010 songs - less shitty than usually?

Dec 02, 2009 19:56

The ESC season is here AGAIN! I just listened the 15 Finnish songs that compete for the ticket to Oslo 2010.

It was rather painful experience as always... 7 songs were too horrible or sleepy to listen until the end. These included slightly opera-style Italian singing (oh no, not again!), Finnish Balkanese-kind-of music-shit sung by a Rybak-lookalike (pathetic!), Irish-style boring ballad, and other songs that I don't want to be reminded of as I already managed to forget them.

The 8 songs that were interesting, weird or bearable enough to listen had 2 x very basic pop-rock band, 1 x piano-ballad man, 2 x weird theatrical females, 1 x swedish-sounding "soft-heavy" and 1 x "funny" Finnish oompah-band. That's 7...

The 8th song was the most interesting one - it made me smile and I actually liked it. I can't categorize it, probably something traditional. It's called Kuunkuiskaajat "Työlki ellää". I thought it would be something funny, but no, it's just cheery. Would be a perfect Finnish eurovision song, because it sounds very very Finnish without being slow and melancholic. And for sure there's nothing similar in the contest. You can listen in YouTube.

I guess the contest starts some time in January.
