Vacation

The past week was spent with my extended family, a few of which I didn't know existed. Those would be the children under the age of 8. The last time I was at my family reunion was 8 years ago and not such a happy time for my family. The beach was relaxing, but much too cold to swim in. Chris' favorite part was going to lowtide, where we could find all the wildlife you'd see at an aquarium, but actually in the ocean. I realized my bowling days would have to be postponed for awhile, as my energy level is much too sluggish for that sport... although I did manange to get my first turkey! Chris impressed my whole family by cooking pasta for everyone there... individually. He loves loves loves to cook. We had about 35 people there and he made it into a Mongolian Grill style dinner. I also saw a 50 foot tall Paul Bunyan at the Redwoods. At first, we thought his comments to us were pre-recorded. That is until Mr Bunyan started responding to our questions. I don't think we took any pictures, I just had such great fun talking to a 50 foot statue. You know, things such as "how many hairs do you have on your chest?" or "what is your middle name?" We even got him to sing happy birthday to my little cousin TJ. We didn't go on the tram through the Redwoods however, Chris isn't one for heights. This year, our nightly campfires included a talent show by the young ones. We left camp early however, because we were pretty anxious to get to Vegas. We left a little late that day and decided to stay a hotel in Sacramento. The next day, we drove all the way out here to the desert. I still am trying to figure out why on earth anyone would willingly live here. Vegas is the fastest growing city in the world, and yes, all buildings have A/C, but why oh why would you choose to stay in the desert? If I had as much $ as the people out here, I would get a house in San Diego. Now THAT is a beautiful city. So here I am, typing away on the computer because it is far too hot to enjoy anything this place has to offer. Yesterday I went to a petting zoo which had farm animals (chickens, cows, donkeys) but it turned out to be a dump. A zoo that operates off of donations... poor animals. It's over 100 degrees here, and I get queasy everytime I step outside. It just so happens the pool is being re-done, so that's out of the question also (although I heard you don't even need a towel in this kind of heat). My husband went off to spend all his money at the sports card shop. It seems as though if you don't gamble, all there is to do here is eat and eat and eat. Don't get me wrong, the casinos are beautiful. I've been to 3 of the biggest, and they all look relatively the same. We may head over to the Luxor later so Chris can show me his chef friends that work there. I've got a cute little belly now from all this eating along with the lack of exercise. But not is all lost, I found some way cute maternity clothes at 1 of the 3 malls they have here. Oh yeah, and I get to meet my only nephew today, yay! Gabriel is already 3, I hope he likes me.
