My Life Drawing Experience
So this month I embarked on a wondrous experiment known as...drawing naked people (life drawing for the meek). I pretty much haven't ever done any drawing before. To my dismay, I only actually got to draw two models, but I still immensely enjoyed the class and I found out I actually like to draw. Whoa! Imagine that!
My teacher was an abstract painter, and so she was very into getting the feel of the subject as opposed to teaching us how to draw proper proportions and tricks and techniques for drawing bodies. We did a lot of crazy scribbling (while not being allowed to look at our paper) and other odd things like getting into the poses the model was making so we could understand how the body parts connected. It was very fun.
Anyway, upon request I've decided to post a good portion of the work I produced. And giving out the links through my livejournal allows me to comment as I go. Woo.
Week 1 (1.05)
We didn't have a model for the first week so we drew a myriad of items (bones, sticks, lanterns, pots, etc.) that were sitting on the drawing stand. We did a lot of gesture and crazy scribbles (like the one picture I posted that just...looks like scribbles).
Week 2 (1.12)
Yay! A naked woman. She was really good at coming up with creative poses, which is good because we did about 40 ten second poses, all on the same paper. I didn't post that one but...there are a few one minute poses. We also started this cool exercise where we drew without drawing edges. I really liked that. We continued that during the next week, when I think I made my best drawings.
Week 3 (1.19)
Now onto a naked man! As mentioned above...drawing without edges kicks ass. And I obviously love drawing the male torso. It's just the best.
Week 4 (1.26)
No model, so we worked on portraits (the one that looks like Sean Penn is actually my drawing teacher...and a woman). The ones that aren't portraits came purely out of my head...which is why a few of them are a little weird.
Ok...that's the short of it. Enjoy...and spread the nudity!
