... WIND CHILL ADVISORY CONTINUES TODAY...
THIS INCLUDES ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND... EXCEPT CAPE COD... BLOCK ISLAND... MARTHAS VINEYARD AND NANTUCKET... WHERE WINDS OFF THE RELATIVELY WARMER OCEAN WATERS WILL PRECLUDE WIND CHILLS FROM LOWERING TO ADVISORY CRITERIA.
ARCTIC AIR IN PLACE COMBINED WITH A BRISK NORTH TO NORTHWEST WIND WILL CAUSE DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS BETWEEN MINUS 15 AND MINUS 25 FOR SEVERAL HOURS TODAY... ESPECIALLY THIS MORNING. THE COLDEST VALUES WILL BE FELT IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS JUST BEFORE SUNRISE THEN CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST NOON.
FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA ARE OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH WIND CHILL. FROSTBITE CAUSES A LOSS OF FEELING AND A WHITE OR PALE APPEARANCE ON THE AFFECTED AREAS. HYPOTHERMIA DEVELOPS WHEN THE BODY BEGINS TO LOSE HEAT FASTER THAN IT CAN PRODUCE IT.
IF YOU GO OUTSIDE... DRESS APPROPRIATELY BY COVERING ALL EXPOSED SKIN. DRESS IN WARM CLOTHING AND IN LAYERS... ESPECIALLY CHILDREN. MITTENS ARE A BETTER PROTECTION FROM THE COLD THAN GLOVES. PEOPLE ARE ENCOURAGED TO CHECK ON THE ELDERLY. HOUSEPETS SHOULD REMAIN INSIDE....
And right now weater.com says it's 1 degree F outside, but feels like -16 with the windchill. I don't even want to walk to the gym...but I have to...how do you crazy Minnesotans do it?
